Thank you sir, your video just turned a crisis into something I can handle. Today after cranking up my alpha 1 gen 2 the annoying alarm horn did not turn off. Gear oil reservoir was low. Noticed gear oil coming out of prop hub, and some on the ground under where the prop was where boat was parked. I was having a bad day until I saw your vid. Thanks again! Something with a barb on it to get old seal out. You fish? Any ideas?

shops charge 500$

We've got a 93 mercury black max 150. I noticed gear oil leaking around the prop shaft seal, so we pulled the prop and found the seal had pushed out. I did not see an inner seal, just the outer. we bought the boat used, so either someone didn't install both at some point, or this one didn't use 2 seals? what do you think?

Mark Puddy says:

did you put outter seal in backwards

My 20hp Johnson has an inner oring on the shaft housing that is leaking.I can see fresh oil seeping around it.Guess I would be well off to replacehe oring and shaft seals at the same time?

I've been looking for this video for a week.. thanks for posting it.. I have a old merc and a month ago I didn't know what I have. .point is am very ignorant about this but am learning watching videos like this .. I think your idea of the 5 pounds of pressure thing is genius. .. well without kissing much more ass I would like to ask you about the seals because I've looked on ebay and so far iave had no luck. . what do I type in… I already tried prop shaft seals for mercury. . and it gives me options but not the seals… if you can point me in the right direction…I have a 1964 mercury 1000 BP. I think. . thanks

A mechanic is quoting me $300 to $400 to do this, how much care did you take to not damage the prop shaft? I think I'm ready to give this a try. My outboard is a 35 hp 1978 Johnson. Thanks, great video
