Thanks this helped me out a lot and you were right.. I cut up my knuckles a
bit :p

justicenow999 says:

So one has to go in through the top to get to the starter motor? It isn’t
possible to get to it from underneath?

Vitaliy Karpenko says:

Thank you for your video it helped me change my dads 1994 Villager starter.

Gilbert Gamboa says:

Very helpful, good video quality, decent narration, all we need is the
assembly. Thank you for taking the time to post.

Awesome vid -THANKS!!! I replaced the starter without much mech experience
in about 1.5 hours. I am an electrician so I’m comfy with tools though.
@2:35 I didn’t remove water tank -not necessary to do. @3:33 I unplugged
the cable plug on the side rather than unscrewing the black computer cap.
@4:00 I removed tube on the opposite end (close to the ‘accordion’); easier
for me. @4:25 I saved time by not disconnecting this junction; I removed
the whole piece together (plastic box & ‘accordion’).

hay i have tthe same type and model van, i have a mercury villager 95. i
tried to replace its starter with a nissan quest 95 starter seeing as they
were both the same. When i did replace it and put everything back, the car
started but when i crancked the van the RPM would not go up more thena 1.5
and the car would shake some what. I slo noted that the “new” starter’s
head had some area. So the total length was somewhat longer i assume. Can
you plz help me out.

muy interesantepero megustria que estubiera en español jaja exelente trabajo

SwingboyPA says:

Respond to this video…PS, I did remove the battery, but not the cooling
reservoir. I also unplugged the black computer thing instead of removing
it. And I did not bother separating the metal part that the black
“accordion thing” was attached to on it’s right side (intake bellows and
the air cleaner housing?). I took both of those off as one unit. I don’t
know the proper vocabulary. 🙂 Not a hard job A rebuilt starter was ~$145
after a$47 discount for returning the old starter.

It is real help and may save me money, thanks a lot! but is anyone can help
me ? When i follow all instruction taking out starter I found a U shape
metal tube connected to a tube which is about a feet connected under
starter housing, I could not locate the U shape should be connected to, it
seems real dirty on its opening, should I just ignore it? Thank you for
help!!!!

I didnt know Chong was a mechanic!! Awesome maaaann!!!!

SwingboyPA says:

@jakdedert Agree this took less time than the video said and I also skipped
some steps. however it did take me about 1.5 hours to remove and replace
the starter. I am NOT into fixing cars although I am an electrician and
feel comfortable using tools. Overall, an excellent video and your tips
fill in the gap -thanks go to you and the original poster! 🙂

jakdedert says:

Things not mentioned: the very small nut on the end of the starter, which
is basically a wire clip I didn’t have a wrench small enough (8mm?) so had
to use pliers. Unplug the solenoid wire by pushing its release clip, then
sliding the connector out of the base to release the clip itself.

i have a mecury villager 1995 and i have a sound coming i think under the
car like a vacuum o something like that any idea ty

BenSTBarker says:

just wanted to thank you for the video tutorial and @swingboy post. Those 2
together helped me remove and replace my starter today. It’s the holidays
and I really don’t have the $ to spend on going to a mechanic. Instead I
found this vid and did it myself. I’ve only changed my oil a few times
nothing else. I’m grateful for this vid and appreciate you giving this
knowledge cause if I went to a mechanic I would have been treated like a
dummy and made to pay for it.Thanks again

this guy talks in sllllllllllllow motion

SuperThrowed E.N.T. says:

shit will he hurry up and tell you how to do the shit! Its fucking my head
up when he talks slow.

jakdedert says:

A lot of unnecessary steps taken here.

jakdedert says:

@SwingboyPA If the starter was simply not working (as opposed to grinding
or locked up), you probably could have saved another hundred bucks. My last
one merely needed new brushes…less than $20. I have seen this model
starter strip its gears, though.
