I almost bought a car with one of these duratech engines. There is literally NO ROOM to work on one of these engines without a major teardown. Forget it, if I can’t get my hands around the engine I’m not buying it. Plain and simple.

My dad hates working on cars…, I just bought a 2001 Ford Taurus SES and now that I’m watching this.., I am really feeling bad for my dad having to work on this. Even though I help him. Looks like my car isn’t going to be on the road for a couple days maybe a week. :/

Thanks man. Great vids. Just picked up a 03 Taurus with a bad oil leak and this confirms what I need done.

asteinman1 says:

Just now been watching your vids. Probably to late but before you bolt the timing cover back on look at the round coolant passage ports at the top of the cover. We (ford dealer) have seen quite a few of the covers deteriate around these ports from corrosion of aluminum on steel. We normaly recomend replacing the cover if they are bad in this area. You could always try putting a little RTV in that area. If it is clean and smooth in that area then you are good to go!!

I’m getting ready to tear apart a 96′ Taurus 3.0L and last time I looked at it, it was still warm outside. I don’t remember it looking that difficult but i was told they are similar to this car… been researching for about 4 hours now and keep getting mixed reviews and not exact year. ANY help besides what a book will tell me will be helpful since this is not my car and normally dont work on fords to this extent
