I sold the power head for parts but everything else was rotted out from salt water use and no cleaning

RichieRouge206 says:

Did you get it running in the end Ed?

RichieRouge206 says:

Love the 70s and 80s Mercurys. The 7,5 has thru hub exhaust I think? What a waste, it’s very clean!

i had a 1972 mercury 20hp and the sparks were huge

Hi I have a 9.8hp i have just purchased i have had to replace the stator and i took the carbie off last night and found that the fuel was milky. i know the feul in the tank is good cause i use this with my other motor will be giving the carb a clean today the motor had no spark that is why i replaced the stator and still could not get it going which lead me to the carbie hobe that this will be the problem.

I have the same motor. Found it in my father-in-law’s shed after being forgotten for 10 years. Started on the first try with some quick start. Runs amazing.

amfan12 says:

I have this motors slightly bigger brother, a 9.8HP. That mercury electronic ignition system can throw some serious voltage out to those plugs. I’ve never seen a spark on a small engine jump as far as these make them go
