John will show you how to replace the prop seals on your Mercury outboard in this video from Boats.net. Removing the lower unit isn’t necessary for this job, but we’re also changing the upper seals and replacing the water pump on this Merc 40, so we’ve already removed the lower unit. We’ll start by removing the gearcase fluid. Then, we’ll get the prop off so that we can access the bearing carrier assembly. With it removed, we’ll pull the old seals and replace them. Finally, we’ll get the bearing carrier and prop re-installed on the outboard.
