Good video. Does the factory manual tell how to replace the mounting that
fits through the window glass? If it does, I’ll look for one to buy on
eBay. Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful hints. I’ll be attempting to replace the struts on
the actual lift gate as soon as I order and receive them… It looks like
the process is the same for the lift gate as it is for the window struts or
am I mistaken? I have a 98 Villager GS. Don’t I have to take the clip off
to remove the bad struts. You implied you didn’t need to do it. Not sure
why you didn’t have to if you were replacing the strut. How else would the
strut come off?

randalusa says:

If the clip is pried up (as shown when using the pointy tool) enough to get
around the nub on the vehicle frame, you can pull the strut out minus
removing that clip. It’s okay to remove the clip entirely. Just adds two
extra steps, the second of which being more difficult. Now if the new
struts have no clips, you will of course need to pull them off the old
pair. I have yet to remove tailgate struts. Yet in looking at them, there
appears to be zero difference from the window struts.

Thanks a bunch for this video! I needed to replace my tail gate struts &
just checked & it functions exactly the same as your window struts. With
your tips, came off & went back on easy peasy. Thanks again!
