We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows that particular repair. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

2001 Taurus, w/push button controls, temp set, etc. – recharged AC, however vents blow both mixture of cold and hot air. I’m thinkin’ the actuator isn’t shutting off the heat completely? Any video on how to remove the center console? Thanks a bunch!

1aauto says:

You may want to take the HVAC panel out to see if anything is wrong with it on the backside. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a 1998 Taurus with the auto temp control and the blend door actuator stopped working my first thing I checked was the blend door and found it not working . so naturally I replaced it well that’s not the problem still not working, checked all fuses and relays even checked all buttons on dash then checked for power to actuator no voltage to actuator anybody have any more ideas on why it wouldn’t be working

1aauto says:

It might be slightly different because of the console being in the way unfortunately. There is two different doors in the vehicle. There is one called a vent door actuator and then another one called a blend door. Once controls the temperature and the other controls which vents receive the air.

Liam D. Gray says:

Is this part also called the “blend door actuator,” and does this procedure work if one has a center console with radio and climate control?

Franko2020 says:

Good video, but as I just found out the hard way, this is not a usable procedure if your car has a center console… Just cost me around $240 at the mechanic’s.

You should be able to get a new piece of rubber hose at your local auto parts store. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

MegaComedy10 says:

I know it’s a broken vacuum line causing my a/c air to blow through the defrost vents because I broke it while adding Freon. Can you tell me how to fix it?

mrjdl1971 says:

I have a ’98 Taurus. The blend door was stuck in the “defrost” position. I wish I knew of this video years ago. I rigged the door to stay open by sticking a straightened clothes hanger down one of the vents to hold the blend door in the “vents” position. It doesn’t work 100% b/c some of the A/C still blows at the windshield THUS my reason to find the correct fix.

1aauto says:

It may, you may also want to see if there any vacuum lines that are broke or split which might also be causing this situation. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

mcdee200 says:

I’m having the same problem as some viewers over here. My heat/cold only comes from the defrost vents. Do u think this part will solve my problem? My part # is XF1H-19E616-CA, a wasn’t able to locate it on your website.

1aauto says:

You should be able to lock the actuator in the a/c side but if the gears are stripped inside the actuator, it may not stay open.

Frank Daniels says:

Forgot to ask this in my last comment. If the actuator is actually bad can I just keep the blender in the ac position only? I live in SW Florida and haven’t used the heater in my car for over 23 years. Thanks

Frank Daniels says:

Thanks for the info on the actuator. Hopefully this will allow my ac to actually blow cold air instead of heater core air. If this isn’t the problem I’ll be checking out your other videos to help me diagnose my problem. Thanks again

LeCaque Grande says:

When you go to the parts store remember to ask for a Blend Door Actuator.

1aauto says:

You may want to check in the engine bay and also under the dash for a possible loose, cracked or broken vacuum line which could be causing this situation. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a Sable Wagon 2000. No automatic climate control. Hot or cold air output is stuck coming only from windshield defrost outlets. I see here about “blend” air problems related to graduating (mixing) air temperature, not about how different air outlets are controlled, like front vents, floor, etc. Could anyone please help? Many thanks. ron.dacosta@gmail.com

1aauto says:

There is a temp door and a vent door. The one that is not shown would be the one you would have to replace. We currently do not have a video for the temp door.

Cristian Gonzalez says:

Witch is the one that controls the temp. Im having problems with that

1aauto says:

There are ones for the temperature and one for the vent door. The Vent door controls where the hot or cold air actually comes from.

PreOrdainedPPP says:

Does the actuator control where the flow of air comes from? I’m not having a problem changing the temperature but I am having a problem where it comes from. Despite the setting, the heat and the air comes out of the window defrost. I’ve heard different things – blend door, actuator, vacuum lines, etc. I’m at a loss and need help please! M.

1aauto says:

It could be, you may want to take a look at it while you switch the lever on the control to see if that’s where the noise is coming from.

Marcos Tapia says:

i own a 2007 mustang and it makes a clicking noise when i swich it from defrost to ac can.this also be related to the actuator?

Al Bee says:

Awesome! Mine was easy to replace! Works awesome now! Thanks SO MUCH!

Thanks for watching Jason. We carry these new actuators on our website with free shipping. You can click on the link in the video and it will take you to the part on our website. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Jason Colbeck says:

This is extremely useful. My heater is blowing only cool air, and every mechanic has pintpointed the problem as my actuator. They also proceeded to tell me that they would have to tear apart my dash and spend 5-6 hours on the work. Minimum quote was $550. Yikes! I think I’d rather try this out and risk breaking my already non-working heater then spend that kind of money on some superfluous work.

Thanks!

Tom F says:

If you have a hard time getting the 4th bolt off the actuator you can pop the cd player out and get to it fairly easily.

mplieb says:

Thank you. Helped me solve my heating issue in my 2000 Taurus without tearing everything apart.

Thanks so much for this video! Took care of my problem. The blower resistor motor had blown and when I replaced it realized I didn’t have heat…it only blew cold air. This saved me from taking my car to a mechanic. Much appreciated.

1aauto says:

The issue could be related to the door actuator not moving. The other issue that these cars are plagued with is the heater core getting gunked up by the coolant sitting inside the lines and turning into a gel

NelsonToB says:

i drive a ford Taurus 06 and my heat not blowing out hot air but cool, also when I’m driving it will heat up a little but not much, what could b wrong it

1aauto says:

it might be in a slightly offset location but it should be the same concept on how to replace the actuator.

GXXRDRVR says:

Great video! However, how different is this procedure for an LS Premium? I popped the glove box down and it looks nothing like the Taurus you have in the video. I can see the actuator is not in the same location. Great videos though!
