Priceless info for the auto inept….like myself, thanks so much for sharing this knowledge. I guess I am not totally inept, the old cars that I used to work on in the 80’s when I was a teenager were primarily 70’s model vehicles. You could open the hood and identify the alternator, the spark plugs, and so on. I open the hood on a newer vehicle and it might as well be a space ship.

If there are cables on the regulator, you may want to check to see if any of them are caught or jammed on anything inside the door. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Attempting to replace my regulator. It went out while the window was in the down position, is there a good way to get it back up? It feels stuck on something when I try to push the window up.

Awesome dude, thank you.

You may want to see if there’s a loose connection to the switch or if it needs to be replaced. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Antonio Marcos Milare says:

I had a problem wiht my drivers window not coming down (one touch) in my 97 Taurus. I had to insist in the switch rocking it back and forth to have it open or close. Then i replaced the relay and it fixed. Some years later it happened again. I “rocked” the switch for i while until i could find/buy the relay and i replaced it, but it did not fix the problem this time. I still can rock the switch and hardly manage to lower or raise the window, but i wish i could fix this new problem. Any idea?

1aauto says:

You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to remove the door panel on your car. Once the door panel is off, you should be able to push the window up into place by hand and hold it into place with a piece of wood or something that will keep it propped up into place. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

My GF has a late 90’s mercury mystique. Is this similar? She can’t afford a new regulator. But the window doesn’t move anymore and is stuck about 4 inches from fully closed. How do I make it at least fully close and leave it there?

Jansey Rodriguez says:

you guys are life savers! thank you for these videos

thank you. now i can service my car ford victoria

1aauto says:

You may want to remove the door panel to see if you can access the penny and remove it from the window regulator track (if it has fallen in there).

Trey Jackson says:

I dropped a penny between my window seal, in the crack of my window while i was sitting inside my car on the driver side, and my window isn’t going all the way down but falls off track when i put it up, I think the penny is wedge between something, what should i do, oh and i have an 06′ taurus by the way

1aauto says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this particular repair.

supercedboogie says:

I were wondering if you guys had a similar video for the rear window regulator on the same vehicle

Dylan Hyde says:

I just want to say thank you for taking the time to make all these videos. This is the 2nd time your videos have been a key factor in my dad and I being able to repair my 05 sable. Thank you very much.

Ed Scroggins says:

No. Contours gl 4cyl 2.0L doc and the v6 are generally the same with a one touch relay in the door. The window will go down or up and stay down or up. This door relay is the problem,NOT the regulator motor, most of the time. Check interior fuse box fuses first, this is the driver door, most used right? However both driver and pass window regulators do fail. Still, check fuses first. The rears I have not seen fail since 96′

Thank you very much for this detailed video. 1A Auto is now at the top of my list for online auto parts. Muchas Gracias!

1aauto says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular repair. You may be able to follow the basic steps and apply them to your application. Some of the tools needed would more than likely be different though.

Robert Jamison says:

Does this work on a 1998 Contour?

shane acadian says:

I went to napa and they only sell the motor for the rear door not the regulator.

1aauto says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video on the rear door, but the basic procedures should be similar on the rear door.

shane acadian says:

I just have a couple questions. Is it the same for the driver rear door. And how do you remove the window control cluster. Thanks

1aauto says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular year/make/model. We’ll keep this in mind when making repairs in the future.

ironman711 says:

What about a 94 Taurus?

Fumunda Cheese says:

I would just recommend investing in a 15 dollar rivet gun, it will eventually come in handy again.

1aauto says:

You may be able to by reaching inside of the door. It may be a little tough though.

Don Keeling says:

The front post on the regulator is out of the teflon/plastic slider in the rail. If I can put it back in, the window should work. Do you have any idea how to pop it back in while inside the door? I’d hate to drill and remove regulator and window rivets if it is not necessary.

1aauto says:

If the rivets broke, you could rivet or bolt it back into place.

Don Keeling says:

If the regulator is ok but rivets have broken off and window is just loose. What then? Do you pull the window up and tape and then position the rail using the switch and then replace? Could it be that simple?
I haven’t had a chance to check it out. Someone slammed the door hard and the window just fell. Hoping its not the regulator.

1aauto says:

Sometimes they do, but you might need to buy a few bolts to hold them onto the door.

TheCubanMan728 says:

Does the new regulator form 1aauto come with the nuts and bolts to replace the rivets?

1aauto says:

It could be faster on the assembly line to use rivets. Not sure though.

booone222 says:

1st of all thanks for your time and effort of your videos. I’ve watched a bunch of them. Now for the rant…….why would they use rivets in the 1st place? I mean they have to know that stuff could break. I have a ’93 taurus and it’s been a real pain on windows, trunk seal. electronics and all that pain in the neck stuff.

1aauto says:

It may be similar but might not be exactly the same as the vehicle shown in the video.

TheeRobc5000 says:

Would this be about the same for a 99 mercury cougar?

1aauto says:

You can drop the window regulator down inside of the door to access the bolts that hold the glass in place. Hope this helps you out.

Pk Master says:

someone busted my window the regulator is fine i just need to get the new one in, and the old bolts off

1aauto says:

You do not need to take the window out of the door, you can tape it up into place while you remove the window regulator.

Pk Master says:

how did u get the window in???????
