sorry i am french … ;)

Dan Faibish says:

Thank you for the video! How to decide if there is too much moisture in the
oil and the gearbox O-rings need to be replaced?

furyiiiplate says:

Thanks for the outboard vid… that was some nasty water.. with a little
oil in it ; )

blueticecho says:

Dony, maybe someday you can do a video on how to change the oil on some of
these new Toro lawn mowers that don’t have a drain plug…….

CAMOSOUTHERN says:

id like to add its best if motors hot to crack top screw first just a
little if not it can blow some real stinky oil all over everything

123908761 says:

This your outboard engine!

lightningsmokerXx says:

Dony is correct….you will get an air pocket if you try filling it from
the top. Always best to fill from the bottom. A gear lube pump with a
fitting on the bottom makes it much easier just like dony had.

JEREMY FOUNTAIN says:

@MyBrilliantChannel u cant fill it from the top hole because it will
pressureize the lower unit when u pump it in

FloridaGatorGuy says:

I like the lawn mower

Joey Robledo says:

I have a 1973 merc 200 20 hp outboard. The lower unit started leaking from
the propeller. I was wondering what seal needs to be replaced. I removed
the prop and could not see a seal so im at a loss. Your help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

AdirondackNY says:

I never worked on boat motors but I just learned something I didnt know

donyboy73 says:

I would have to see it, but check to see if there is a small set screw at
the lower unit holding it on

noway josah says:

Thanks for a well done video.

SuperchargedMustang5 says:

@MyBrilliantChannel it fits in the bottom hole not the top

Dave Scott says:

Oh Donny Boy! You’re the man with the ham. Great video as always, thank you.

Raymond Reyes says:

Thank you so much! That was easy to follow. You’re great!!!

donyboy73 says:

@krismounts lol, thanks

donyboy73 says:

@conflustered are you a marine mechanic?

JustMeNoOther says:

Hi, the grey color of the oil is the same situation for trimmer,
chainsaws, etc.? Becasue sometimes I see cylinders with a very sticky gray
paste and the cylinder, piston and ring are so damaged I mean all are so
striped, that I can feel so deep the scratches. I know that some people use
old gasoline, maybe with condensed water, but I do not know really what’s
the cause the sticky gray paste. Thanks!!!!

Leroy Carroll says:

Great vid. Wish you would do one on replacing the lower seal. Looks simple
but that normally the ones that are BAD

donyboy73 says:

thanks for watching dave!

Jamie Losee says:

Quick question for you, I have a 6hp that isn’t taking water through the
intake. Any advice?

youspic says:

Great vid, i will be replacing my oil this afternoon for the 1st time
myself

toddpf says:

How did water get in there?

Adam Hrebeniuk says:

Thank you DonyBoy! I was actually scared to do this. I have a 1980s Mercury
8HP Outboard that has never been changed. The beast runs with one pull
after sitting but I knew I needed to change the Lower Unit Oil… Now I am
looking to see if I can perform a simple tune up on the top end. Hope you
have a video for that.

jasper60103 says:

Nice video. Would like to see more outboard maintenance or repairs. Thanks
for sharing.

callofdutyplayerOPG says:

how do you chang it on a 300 verodo I got it last week

88tourleader says:

Great Video!

opopopopop31 says:

NICE VID!

bayman50cal says:

water pump impeller may be bad. Should be six screws holding lower unit to
motor. Remove them, take out the screw on shift linkage which will be
exposed when lower unit comes down a bit. Remove screw and take lower unit
off. Water pump is on shaft. remove screws, take water pump cover off,you
will see a rubber piece, maybe six fins. Are they worn down. Replace with
new one,can find online or at your local boat shop. There are many videos
on here that show how to do this. Search your hp and make.

Josh Swannack says:

Why not fill it from the top hole? stop it leaking out?

Joe Simpson says:

Good Job…simple and imformative

Martin Netušil says:

Hi, i’ve got a little off topic question, but i have 6hp 2stroke merc – so
its quite similar type. I want to replace impeler but somehow i’m unable to
disconnect shifting rod, do you have any advice please? 😉 good vid btw,
very educational

classicoutboards says:

probably should have pressure and vac tested the gearcase as there was
water in the oil. water can get into the gearcase thru the propshaft seal,
the drive shaft seal or the shift rod seal.

1972FordF150 says:

Great video I didn’t know these had oil in them lol thumbs up

HighlandR100 says:

Great video Dony ! just a quick question – I have just purchased a Mercury
15hp same as yours, and there is some oil leaking from just behind the
prop, where you mentioned on the video – what seal do i need to replace ?
do you have a video of replacing these seals at all ? Thanks for any advice
buddy!

donyboy73 says:

thanks for watching

starkran000 says:

Why can’t you fill it from the top hole

donyboy73 says:

@MyBrilliantChannel it’s toake sure there are no air pockets

outdoorsman310 says:

i have one of those pumps without the mercurty fitting. i use it to change
manual transmission and differential fluid

krismounts says:

I don’t have a boat,but who cares still a great vid Don.

donyboy73 says:

@123908761 not this one

JEREMY FOUNTAIN says:

u gonna do prop shaft seals on this one?

JEREMY FOUNTAIN says:

@classicoutboards 100 % correct.
