i have a lincoln towncar the Dom.rear ligths stays on wont come off

Autotechviewpoint says:

@paullleor I would assume it is the same.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Sorry all I have to offer is in this video, and if it wont pass the smog
test, well that could be a lot of things. Really better to save your money,
DONT throw parts at it trying to fix it. Oxygen sensor, Mass Air Flow
sensor (if It has one) catalytic converter bad, vacuum leak,,,etc etc

Autotechviewpoint says:

I think I found the connector and unplugged it and then jumpered it and the
dome light went off. Fairly common problem

djemontes says:

awesome!…thanks!…i got a 2002 taurus…but its gotta be the same
location because i didnt find it until now.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Unfortunately you need to get to the connector and jump the wires together
for the door ajar switch, or get to the module that controls the interior
lights at test there. Sorry I do not have that information available now. 2
information sites are available through the tipjar website in the
description.

Autotechviewpoint says:

yes you can get those from your local parts store, likely… Or surely you
can find them on line somewhere

Thank you for the reply. Left a tip. Your description matches what I have
but I cannot get the latch out. I sprayed the latch with WD-40 and White
Lithium Grease. The latch does look as if its hanging up a bit. I also
noticed that my front dome light was flickering and upon further
investigation (after taking apart) realized the contacts were very dirty
and the bulbs needed replacing as they worked but looked highly
questionable. Now everything works normally.

electricwally says:

During the process of removing the door latch, I noticed when I
disconnected one of the many electrical plugs to the door latch that one in
particular was filled with what appeared to be white lithium grease. The
connector has two electrical tabs inside the socket that were covered with
this grease. Should I clean this out or was the grease placed inside the
connector for a specific reason?

electricwally says:

Thanks again for the video. When you said, “the door ajar switch can stick
causing the dome light to stay on”. Can the switch be cleaned to stop the
sticking or is the sticking issue an internal part of the switch that is
not accessible? Thank you.

electricwally says:

The symptoms I’ve been dealing with for about 5 years are not only the dome
light staying on but also the door lights staying on and the power windows
NOT working. However every time I reached over (from the driver seat) and
opened the OUTSIDE passenger door handle the power windows would suddenly
work. I have been all over the Ford Taurusclub about this issue and have
tracked the problem down to the passenger door latch.

Bob C says:

Thank you that is a big help!

lukkey7 says:

Thanks a ton for recording this! I have a 97 Taurus as well. This has been
a HUGE help!

electricwally says:

Thank you for the video. Your the only person who posted a video on this
subject (that I can find). I’ve been at this for three hours now and cannot
get the latch out. I have easily removed the door panel as I have done this
before but please tell me how you removed the latch assembly. I have no
idea how to disconnect the rods that are attached to the door handle and
key lock cylinder. I also cannot believe the amount of electronics inside
the door latch assembly. Man-o-man enough is enough.

Matt Willshon says:

I have the same problem. How did you figure out witch door was makeing the
problem.

Autotechviewpoint says:

All I can tell you is I believe there are plastic clips that hold the rods
in place. I think that you should be able to push them off with a
screwdriver, to unlock the plastic clip and pull the rod out of the hole.
the clip should have a hole in it the is in a hole in the latch. HTH

electricwally says:

Todd, I would kindly leave a tip if you can please tell me how to remove
those dang rods from the latch assembly. I would like to remove the entire
latch and clean all areas. I tried to remove the door ajar switch without
taking out the latch but there is simply not enough room for me to get a
good grip on the mentioned switch. I have everything else removed except
for these rods. I have to keep walking away from this project for a few
minutes to keep my sanity. Thanks Todd.

I will never ever ever buy another ford tuarus it is a nightmare in everyway

electricwally says:

There are three rods and one cable that are keeping me from removing the
latch. They are: 1) The outside door handle rod 2) The key lock cylinder
rod 3) The automatic door lock rod (located at the bottom of the latch) 4)
The inside door handle cable How do I remove the above mentioned rods and
cable please?. They are driving me crazy! Seems to me there is no way to
remove these without causing some type of damage. Any ideas? Thank you.
