Donald Howell says:

oh by the way this is a good video it will help anyone unlucky to have this car or motor when it fails on you and it will …. Good job APDTY , sad that they make a plastic manifold, why not all aluminum why plastic , well FORD WHY?

Donald Howell says:

Ford shame on YOU. I will never buy another Ford for the rest of my life. What a pile of crap.

Donald Howell says:

The new manifold is crap too yea they put the aluminum on the new manifold but it still has plastic under the aluminum right ware the coolant runs and makes the plastic brittle and fails I’ve had it happen to me and I’m pissed because they designed it to brake ,all they did is make you feel like your getting something you think is high quality when they are just sicking it to you ! Why in the hell do you put plastic on a engine , To make it fail never buy a plastic engine or a car with it!!!!!!

Rodney Goodman says:

The first nut is a 13mm, then you have to remove a bracket (I had to loosen the bracket by backing out the other bracket bolt (13mm) to get it loose enough to slide off) and then you need a 15mm to remove the bracket mounted on the cylinder head. I highly recommend using a swivel head ratchet wrench.

David Holland says:

Great video, the video stated the the intake was from autopartsdirect, but it didnt state the manufacturer name of the part. I was impressed with the kit and would like to know the name of it if possible thanks.

Paul Gardner says:

Yes please what size is that bolt I am having a really hard time getting it off and even reaching it so knowing the sizes with be a great help

Gerald Thomas says:

True! These were police cruisers when I worked at a police garage.

NemanjaGuitar says:

only for fleet vehicles, unfortunately.

Gerald Thomas says:

That’s a recall repair.

APDTY says:

Not at all, The manifold is designed to have the exact same specifications as the original intakes. The 2003 Police Interceptor uses the 4.6L PI engine, and the intake we carry for the 2003 is designed for that engine.

AvenueD417 says:

will this manifold hinder the performance of my 2003 ford crown victoria police interceptor?

neese g says:

Would that work on a 1993 markviii

sslicker1 says:

great work and very helpful, I got a ford explorer 2002 limited 4.6L V8 can you please tell me the spark plug sequence 1 to 8.
thanks in advance

APDTY says:

The 1994 engine will be different, we don’t have any videos on that particular one. The good news is that you should have an all aluminum intake and will likely not be needing to do this repair.

Sam Alvey says:

How about a 1994 Thunderbird 4.6? My injector rail and throttlebody seem VERY different.

APDTY says:

Your car will be almost an identical procedure as this one.

noel1553 says:

Would this apply to my 2000 Ford Mustang GT? it’s a 4.6L

NeverLo0kBack85 says:

I had to replace mine on my 96 grand marquis. Such a stupid design. Aftermarket ftw

Dave Scott says:

Crazy!! The guy at the parts store was like you can do this repair, and after watching this video, I’ll stick to upholstery and furniture refinishing. Holy hell this is a nut and bolt affair for those with wrenches for hands. Great video and this is why good mechanics get my respect, it’s an art form.

APDTY says:

I agree, the earlier versions of this engine were notorious for that hose going out. On the later versions of this engine however, they replaced that hose with a solid metal pipe like this car had. If it had that hose which is notorious for failing, I would have certainly replaced it while in there. Thanks for the tip.

SmokeRises says:

Notice the heater core hose running un the center directly under the intake manifold.this is a perfect time to replace it. Depending of course on it’s condition and whether or not you like removing the intake.

selerim says:

Hi a man selling his 97 town car, said he repaired/replace engine and transmission and got the paper works however don’t know if it was cause of the intake manifold didn’t ask, has 154k miles do you think if he did would it be a good deal to buy?

Kurt Hammond says:

I did this on a 1996 Marquis – looks the same – I didn’t have to remove the alternator or the bottom of the EGR tube – just wiggled the intake manifold out around them…

Derrick Phillips says:

What size is the nut on the bracket mounted to the cylinder head?

matzpimp says:

replace all the coil pack, thats what im gona try on my brothers car, you can buy all 8 of them on amazon for 200 bucks

matzpimp says:

thanks a ton for the video, i did this for my brother car, the only thing i did different was I took the windshield wiper unit pices off and that helped a bunch to get that rear 2 bolts, i could not get my hand behind the engine like you did, had to be a pain to do that. 9:07

HPDBLUE559 says:

R2rocketeer. You have to remove the brake booster to remove the valve cover on that side. It’s pretty easy. Just did it to mine.

Brandon Titus says:

3 of the coil pack boots were cracked so I replaced them and put them all back in. Now shes still running rough but not as rough as it was a couple days ago. No check engine light also. Any ideas?

Brandon Titus says:

Just did this on my 06 crown vic. Not leaking coolant anymore but she runs rough. I told my cousin, who was helping me, that I was gonna drain the coolant before I got to do that he had already taken the bolts off the passenger side of the intake so coolant got into the passenger side spark plug holes. The check engine light came on. So today I took out the 4 coil packs and the 2 spark plugs I could get out (1st and 2nd one) the plugs were fine so I just dried them and put them back in.

APDTY says:

We do not have a video for that particular intake manifold replacement, but it is similar to this one, you should be able to use this video as a “template” for your job, it’s almost identical.

david28423 says:

i have a ford f150 2007 4.6 and i have to replace the manifold intake do you have a video??

Michael Fincher says:

This is a great video and it helped me change the Intake Manifold on my 2003 Mustang Gt there aren’t as many part on a mustang as on the Lincoln but its like 98% the same. Thanks!

imjustpassinthru says:

Continuation of my post below: More tips: Be careful what you use to remove old gasket material and debris from mating surfaces. Scratches can cause problems. The fuel rail and injectors aren’t as intimidating as they look, in case you’ve never worked on injectors before. Just make sure they’re seated properly when you put ’em back in. Install all 8 injectors in the fuel rail first, then set the rail in place and push each injector into its seat. You can feel each injector “pop” back in place.

imjustpassinthru says:

I replaced the intake manifold on my 4.6 liter with a Dorman model ordered through Amazon. It had a hair line crack slowly leaking coolant where the heater hose connects to the back of the manifold. If you’ve worked on cars at all, you can do this. A few pointers: Take pictures beforehand of the configuration of hoses and harnesses. Buy and replace injector O rings (two on each injector). Put every bolt and part you remove in separate plastic baggies with a note explaining what it belongs to.

R2Rocketeer says:

Hey do you have any advice about replacing the valve cover gaskets on a 4.6L 1997 Thunderbird? I’m trying to get the driver’s side valve cover off but clearance is almost nonexistent in the back because of the brake booster and the mounts on the intake manifold. Do you have any advice for getting this cover off? Thanks!

Aliea5c says:

I hope you can make a video as how to remove the upper intake manifold slowly in a step by step fashion so that people will and can know how to remove the upper 3 spark plugs on a Hyundai Sonata 2004 V6 2.7L sooner or later.

Josh Collison says:

Hey man, Just want to thank you for the amazing video. I’m not even a car guy, but i watched it all the way through, took three pages of notes, then went and did it. It took me basically an entire Saturday, but you saved me AT LEAST $500. Thank you so much! Very thorough video.

Joe Seely says:

Who in their right mind would make a critical part so flawed?…guess that would be Ford Motor Company.

AsknotwhatUcan says:

Great video, thanks for your hard work on this.

Juan Carlos Guido says:

Nice.

luv4pie says:

its the 4.2 v6

APDTY says:

Even though the car has low miles, it is still almost 13 years old, so I would keep an eye on the intake. Just keep a close eye on it and if you see any sign of coolant leaking, or any cracks developing, go ahead and replace it at that time. It also wouldn’t hurt to do the repair as preventative maintenance, that way you wouldn’t have to worry about it failing in the future.
