I have this same problem on my 97 125hp merc. Would this also cause the
tach. to stop working? I have the same timing light and when I switch to
RPM is says the motor is turning 3700- sometimes 7000 RPM. Yes I have it
switched to 2 stroke. The motor runs but when I try to dial in the top two
carb’s it seems that I can’t get it dialed in. I hope this is my whole
problem.
Try this, swap both the input trigger wire and the output green wire to the
coil on #2 and #3. If #3 still does not fire then it is not the trigger.
Put the wires back in the original position and swap the #2 and #4 coils.
If #2 does not fire replace the defective coil. Do the same with the #3
coil to check. Hope this helps. Larry
Thank you for the video i found out my trigger on my 120 hp force was bad
using this test out of the blue it was hard to start and ran horrible wish
i would have came across this video earlier after i rebuilt both my carbs
and changed my stator
GREAT VIDEO!!!
Children–go back and play on your X-box.
Tony, Glad this video helped you. I mainly posted it to show my customer
what his problem was, so I could go ahead and order a new trigger! New
trigger- problem solved.
Videos like this make headaches go away

My Mercury 200 is very slow out of the hole but once on place it runs very
smooth. However, it wont idle when trimmed down and tucked under with
exhaust under water. also, when engine is level i have to hold foot on gas
or it dies when I put it in gear and it is hard to start sometimes as well.
could this test help me? I have went through carbs, not kits, just cleaned
and put plugs in. New plugs helps for a short time maybe a day or so then
back to same problem..help.bonedango321@gmail.com
Good video! Thanks. I went and took my motor apart 5yrs ago, I suspected
the trigger( cal 3&4 no fire). After removing the original 1979 trigger, I
dont see how anything was firing. Anyway, to make a long story short, I
installed the new one and still no fire now on 3&4 cyl. I am hoping that my
switch box isnt bad, any ideas would be much appreciated.
