A blown head gasket often means the end of the line for an old car, due to the high cost to repair it. We found a used head and turned it into a DIY project. With 15 hours of labor, it’s not an easy job, including replacing a water pump, a timing belt, removing a broken head bolt and more. Try not to drop your wrench or ratchet on this job and try and have a few laughs along the way! Like, share and subscribe to our YOUTUBE channel for more auto repair videos.
I'm working on a 98 tracer for a buddy of mine and I got everything disconnected that needs to be, but can't seem to get the head detached from the block. feels like there is still something holding it. any advice would help. I got it as far as I possibly could. the intake, exhaust, thermostat, all that is strictly on the head so I'm not worrying about it. if there are any hidden bolts that need to be removed. I would love to hear about them. thanks.
I think I am missing something here. You said a new head gasket for this ford escort is $300. I bought a head gasket from pep boys for $23. Are we talking about the same thing?
you gotta remove lifters and valve springs and rocker arms to repace a gasket or dose the head come rigt off with it still assembled ?
cool video dudes! I was looking at buying a cheap truck with a blown head gasket. This let me know what I might be getting into.
About how much does this cost?
The head doesn't need to be resurfaced? How did the repair hold up?
Hi Chris, a fun project huh? It helps to laugh a few times when you drop the wrench or ratchet. Hope your head bolts came off easier than ours did, but nice to grab a welder, fuse a nut and get the broken bolt off so easily. That was pretty neat. Good luck, and hope the car runs for many years. Thanks for posting this. It added a bit of lightness to my morning. I'm currently doing the headgasket and water pump/belt in my girlfriends '95 Escort. I'm about 9 hours in. lol
