I would like to see a before and after clip on how much water is pumping.

Jordan Vandervelde says:

Cannot get my impeller out of the housing. Anyone ever have one stuck?

Marshall the Lazy Gamer says:

wow dude thx this helped allot, i love youtube!

rascal4now says:

I liked the video and have had this darn thing apart 3 times now. It still won’t pump water. Any suggestions? I’m sure I have put it together right. Would really appreciate your help.

Adrianperez03 says:

Don’t know if you can help but I replaced the impeller but water is not being pumped through. Do you what else it could be?

basswaccer says:

Do you have a better video posted? Where can I find it smartass?

basswaccer says:

I appreciate you showing me how, no matter how good of quality the video brightness is. You have helped me and again I apprecite it very much. Thanks!!!

FarReachFR says:

Yes, should be fine as the lower unit is completely separate from the power-head. the oil can not move one to the other. For example in my video I did not empty the lower unit.

FarReachFR says:

I cant speak to the 1967, but I will say I would be reluctant to start prying open plates. That said if you have taken off all visible bolts you could try giving the lower unit a bump with a rubber mallet, etc. It may just be stuck. Give the forward reverse selector a wiggle as well to make sure there is no binding.

why working in the dark?

Teresa Eisner Marquez says:

Is it ok to flip up side down with out emptying the oil from the lower unit?

bullshitidentified says:

If you must make videos, make them with rigour, make them useful, make an image that can be seen without a wobbling torch. The tricky bit with a Mercury pump is to get the impeller fins swirled in the right direction (two possibilities, one is right, no mention of this), getting the shaft-key back in place (glossed over, no useful tips or suggestions), and the cheek-plates correctly refitted (the top one is tricky and people will get this wrong). Brave New World, useless and pointless video !

FarReachFR says:

Using some grease on the impeller and housing can help you not burn up the impeller during its first run when it first is starting to get primed and suck in the first bit of water.

Rod Shaner says:

Excellent breakdown. However, I did not recall any commentary re: lubricant required or advised to extend life of impeller? Is there anything that can help prolong impeller’s service life?

Sunfadedlovejaded says:

R O G A I N E !! !! !!

FarReachFR says:

If you mean, remove the gear shift lever? the answer is no. You can leave the gear shift lever attached. The gear selector shaft itself should pull out without further disassembly. If it seems like it sticks, you might want to wiggle the gear selector switch in and out of gear a couple times.

Mitchell S says:

You are supposed to disconnect the gear shift actuator from the head right?

TheFishman88 says:

say guy i got a 7.5 murcury, auuuh wat, grade of gear lube, is for the lower unit do i use, i seen some stuff in the auto store,85-90 etc

DIAZNEDORUBANAI says:

This video help me to much with the same problem in a Mercury 4hp, I´ll do the same but in spanish. From Rosario Argentina. Thank you very much! Miguel.

FarReachFR says:

Glad to hear it helped. As for the spark plug mine is running an NGK BUHW-2. I didnt pull it to check the gap. It has been in there since I purchased the engine. I would not be suprised at all that the NGK BUHW-2 come pre-gapped and ready to go.

MrChetes01 says:

hello my friend, i have the same outboard (think a little bit newer), I bought it recently…no water was flowing so i followed your instructions and got to the problem. Thanks a lot, excellent explanation.
Do you know what spark plug model goes in it? and gap?
Man, thanks again, great video.
(May be I`ll ask some other stuff, dont know this outboard at all)
