In this video i show the steps and components to install the lower unit on older Mercury Outboards.
A significant amount of pressure will need to be applied to get the drive shaft to slide up into the crank shaft. Thats ok, and should be expected as long as there is plenty of grease on the drive shaft.

Why didn’t you show us how to put it back into place? I think you still have problems installing it.
There is a gasket between the water pump and the hose that goes into it?
