Just tried a camcorder with an NTSC output and it worked great so
definately NTSC on my car, I did see some PAL reversing cameras online for
the W204 2007 to 2011 so anyone buying a camera, beware of the NTSC/PAL
issue.

Hi Scott, I eventually got my Fakra to RCA lead today but I have a problem.
My cars rearview camera option in the engineers menu only has ‘not
installed’ or ‘installed’., unlike your 3 options of SRVC DRVM and DRVM-PSC.
The image flickers like crazy on the cars screen, but it works fine when
connected to a small external screen. My guess is the camera is the wrong
type to suit the command unit.
It’s a 2008 W204 C350 with the 7 inch pop up screen, do you know if the
camera should be PAL or NTSC.
Thanks for your help, it’s very much appreciated.

Hi Scott You may recall my car has Aux plug going into APS, where you
connected FAKR plug, so I ordered an adapter to take video + stereo input
from Aux extension in glove box. When I plugged camera into it and
accordingly set up Comand Menu – I got nothing, except after selecting Aux
in Comand, I got low buzzing sound. So as yet, still haven’t been able to
operate the camera. So I am now left with having to remove Aux input and
replace it with suitable FAKR adaptor. Its a pity cos’ I use Aux.

MrScott52 says:

Johnny thanks for your kind words. I do appreciate it. The light in the
camera fitting is fine and throws plenty of light for the plate. It maybe
slightly less than the other fitting but the plate is well illuminated in
total. Good luck with the project. Remember to take your time and you
shouldn’t have any issues. regards, Scott

Thanks for the great video, I will be doing this for sure! I have got a
small reversing camera that I could use but I might be better getting the
one that’s integrated to the number plate light as in the video. Does the
light above the camera illuminate the plate just as well as the lamp other
side or is it less illuminated due to the cameras shadow? P.S. I’ve seen
your video on how to remove the head unit too. Many thanks for the
excellent tutorials on a low cost, awesome mod.

MrScott52 says:

Thanks for your kind words as I do appreciate them. I was just about to
race off to the garage to see what firmware I have. You seem to have it all
sorted now. Good luck with it. Scott

HI, an update to previous post. All working OK now. I did not realize that
the Aux Video option had also to be set as “ON” in the engineering menu.
Thank you again for your excellent videos.

HI, I have a 2008 W204 C280. I have purchased and installed the HD camera
and Fakra connector as per your excellent videos, however, on setting up
the Comand in engineering mode, I find that my options are different. I can
select reversing camera installed, but no other options for video type
exist, such as SRVC etc. Also after selecting “installed, and saving, no
reversing camera appears in the System menu.” Can you please advise what
software/firmware version you have, thanks.

Igor Iakovenko says:

Thanks again! You are real champion! Yes, I’ve got W204 C320 CDI. I been
thinking to do this for some time and your video got me on the right track.
Thanks for inspiration!

MrScott52 says:

Igor do you have the W204 model series or the model before W203? The NTSC
should still work from what i can see if your COMAND is the same as I’ve
got in my C320CDI here in Australia.

Igor Iakovenko says:

Hi MrScott! Your video is Great! Thanks! So you bought camera with NTSC
system? Is that OK in Australia? What is the system on my Comand APS C320
CDI 2007?

MrScott52 says:

That sounds like the power supply cable. I’m assuming you’re talking about
cables coming out of the camera?

vagellestube says:

Thanks for replying. Haven’t installed it yet. The cable that goes to the
comand has a yellow aux connector (looks like a male rca), there is a red
cable about 6 inches long coming out of this connector. This is where im
confused.

MrScott52 says:

If you have the COMAND APS you should only need to connect the Video cable
to the green Fakra connector with the adaptor. I assume you have the camera
mounted at the back and powered up from pin 71 in the rear fuse box. So the
video signal is present at the HU all the time. When you go into the
Engineering menu you tell it to show the video signal when reverse is
selected.

vagellestube says:

*head unit (command control).

vagellestube says:

On the head there are two connection i have to make, one to the video input
and the other for the reverse detect wire, where does the reverse detect
wire go? Thanks.

Abdulla Bhagat says:

thank you. Will check.

MrScott52 says:

Abdulla try the forum benzworld I’m not famiilar with the engineering mode
for the non motorized screen. I will also do some searching and if I find
something I will post a comment.

MrScott52 says:

Abdulla does this help: youtube.com/watch?v=KzWqBeg3FRc The video is for
the engineering menu in an Audio 20 in a 2011 model. You need to find the
parameters for the Head Unit (HU). It’s worth joining the Benzworld forum
and you can usually find these things.

Abdulla Bhagat says:

I have a W204 C200 KOMPRESSOR 2009 DEC, i entered the engineering mode for
rear view camera activation. But i did not find any rev camera on option.
Even the engineering mode is different from yours. My screen is not
motorized, Please suggest how to unable the camera. Futher its an Audio 20.

MrScott52 says:

Good news. I worked out how to get the monitor out of the unit. It’s very
easy once you know what to do. I’ve mad a video and will be uploading soon.

dcorpsfan says:

Hi. As many have mentioned this is a very well done video. You mentioned
you listed the link to where you purchased the camera in the description,
but I do not see that. Is there anyway to list the name in a response? Also
does the camera come with the clear plastic cover (where light bulb
inserts)? Thanks again for all you work in putting the videos together.

MrScott52 says:

Thanks for the compliment. I’m not sure why quite a few people think it’s
very good. The only reason I can think of is because I try to explain what
I’m doing as if you’re standing next to me. I’m no Steven Spielberg as far
as movie making goes! The link is in the You Tube description under the
video. I just checked and it’s there. It’s not in the actual video but on
the YT site if that makes sense. The camera comes as a complete fitting to
replace the rego light. The globe goes straight in.

MrScott52 says:

I had a good play around today and getting the screen out is not easy on
the folding type we have. I tried all sorts of things but had no luck. I’m
thinking fitting a generic LCD may not be easy. The whole unit may have to
be dismantled but I haven’t given up yet. What I may do is buy a broken
unit cheaply on eBay and use that as the guinea pig. I don’t want to break
the one in my car. I’ve modified my screen unit removal video to show how
to remove it from the car. It’s uploading now.

MrScott52 says:

I got the link … thanks. The Merc Upgrade site is handy. If I was
installing a wireless camera I’d take the power from the glove box power
cigar socket as I think it’s a safer option than cutting into wires behind
the COMAND. I’m thinking once the COMAND and glove box are out you should
be able to push a stiff wire through (like coat hanger wire) and then tape
the electrical wire onto the end and pull it through. The GSXR600K7 is a
good machine. Us Merc bikers have to look after each other.

MrScott52 says:

I’ve got them all working now. I’m interested in looking at the screen
removal for my own benefit as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to nut it out.

MrScott52 says:

Finding a ground point is usually not an issue. You can always just find a
screw into metal and connect to that. And of course you will be able to
leave the wireless transmitter behind the glove box somewhere. Then I guess
you will have to pull the AV cable through to the COMAND from the
transmitter. Good luck with it all and take your time.
