Have you noticed a drop in your engine’s performance? Often, the culprit is simply a dirty air filter that’s making it hard for the engine to breath. Luckily, replacing the engine air filter is a simple task on pretty much any car and requires minimal tools to do.

In this video, we show you how to replace the air filter in a Mercedes C300. This procedure is the same for all Mercedes M112/M113/M272/M273 engines.

This video is overall decent but might make is seem a bit more simple and easier than it actually is, doing it with the care it deserves is going to take the average do it yourselfer more than ten minuets.
A few caveats to note:
1) I would not use any kind of driver when replacing the screws. The boss, the part that the screws from the air filter box thread into are not that hard to twist and break off or strip out. If one should break or strip out and your not getting a good full seal around the air filter edge, your engine would then be pulling in uncleaned air which over time could reduce the life of your engine. Replacing that whole assembly used will cost you about $100 and a new one over $200. Be Careful! Run the screws in and tighten BY HAND.
2) all that dirt and debris shown in the video; be careful to not just dump that into the "clean air" side of the filter housing. (beneath the filter) take the time to clean things up a bit and keep that dirt out of the air filter assembly when you put in the new filters. An air hose and a damp rag is all you should need.
3) When reinstalling the assembly after the filters are in take care that the seal going to the air intake at the back of the engine gets aligned and fits down over the air intake properly. It can be a little tricky and again if not on properly you will be pulling in dirty air. Just double check it
4) The four clips that hold the whole assembly in place can be a little tricky too, just make sure that each one has slipped down over the small rubber "knob" to hold the assembly properly in place. Its not too hard to press down on one corner and actually bend over the clip and not get it locked down properly.
Take your time and plan to spend at least 20 minutes to get it right, the details count when your protecting your $5-6K+ engine!
