it helps if u cycle the HI-LO range avery once inna while too…THAT is what does that vehicle needs the most.. trust me in that.. if u dont hear that elec motor doing its job keep trying…have your wife or firlfriend tap on the motor with a hammer while u toggle back and forth on the switch..if its cold outside start the vehicle that will keep them warm until the motor unsticks and lo range is engaged. most transfer case problem stems from that .. realistically…those TC;s are tuff

Good Vid, Dire music! It’d be far better to talk through what you’re doing, hear if the engine is running, etc.

What are the name of the songs?

Amopower says:

I dont understand why you got so much fluid coming out from the TOP drain hole, because that just means you will not be able to get the same amount of fluid back into it, it will just drain out once it reaches the top drain hole. Maybe the truck needs to be raised on one end?

@wwwdeelocke,

I have a similar problem on a ML320 1998, The trak, trak trak noise originating from the tranfer case is quite severe.
Did you manage to find out what the problem was on yours?

Just a couple of things:

If you put the car on axle stands it will never be level with the ground… that’s why you get so much oil spilled when you remove the filling plug: if it was level, just a few drops should come out assuming the oil was at its right level.

And secondly: you do not need loctite to secure the fill and drain plugs… Mercedes never does.
