How to replace Mercedes Cabriolet roof cords – A Step by step guide (A205/A238)

In this video we take a detailed and step by step approach looking at how to replace the roof cords in the Mercedes C and E Class (205/238) Cabriolet models with have a known fault and break. The reason they break is that Mercedes used sub-standard parts on all cars built to Jul 2019, however, will not honour any warranty claim. Instead you have to pay at least £2000 to get Mercedes to fix it (I was quoted €4000 by a local dealer in Germany)!! This is even more outrageous when the parts to fix them retail at €50/£45.

The part number you need to order is: A205 778 0500

Awesome video- I've done this already on my own car (also an A238), a suggestion- at the end please consider lubricating the cords. I've used a plastic safe silicone lubricant grease. It protects them from friction and prevents them fraying again. Maintaining that fabric tape and some sort of lubrication is especially important for longevity.

Superb video. I have a e53 2019 and every year mercedes change the cords on mine. It has been an ongoing problem since the 2nd year of ownership. Lucky for me, I spotted the problem while the car was still in warranty.
The new roof cords that you have from mercedes, are they upgraded from the cords you replaced?
Thanks again for the video, very enlightening.
