question fupa if i were to replace the cluster with one from the junkyard,
will the one from the junk yard read the actual mileage of the car?

Meister Webzr says:

Just saved me 200 bucks, you’ve been subs

superbird520 says:

When you removed the key while the cluster was still out I clenched up,
while working at lexus dealer I was pulling out a cluster and another tech
that thought the beeping was annoying pulled out the key, the telescopic
column started collapsing and damaged the old cluster.

James Vanger says:

Really does Mercedes Benz fuck up your dashboard when they pull it out as
well?

pillayw126 says:

The Mercedes tool is almost exactly as the poster of this video has made.
Works fine for the manufacturer. Fupabox is doing it exactly right.

fupabox says:

mbcluster….google that name

Peter Graziano says:

Has anyone repaired the pixel ribbon cables?

fupabox says:

check the w202 playlist…it’sall on there 🙂

Natasha Sharp says:

hey this was awesome, can you show how to change the bulbs, my digital prt
is not showing properly

fupabox says:

Umm..no. the plug just wasn’t seated properly..nothing broken

greatkillsny says:

using a metal hanger pulling on live electronics and stunned the cluster
isnt working properly anymore lmao

greatkillsny says:

it worked before you broke it

fupabox says:

not pulling on live electronics ..it’s quite obvious you have no clue what
you are talking about..thanks for trolling

fupabox says:

have you tried repairing it ? is it the electronics that aren’t working or
just the case ?

TOLULOPE AKINRINMADE says:

Hello fupabox… great watching u solve stuff on the Benz. You sure helped
me with my Benz C180 2000 model on the wiper malfunction. I have a cluster
prob… pixel fading and coming back on but not clearly… Does your 1997
model solution apply to 2000 models? H.E.L.P!!! Thanks a lot.

fupabox says:

Try checking all the fuses for panel lighting/gauge lighting..spin them in
their sockets and make sure they have good contact .I’m thinking that if a
fuse isn’t contacting good enough, the CAN lighting controller doesn’t sense
enough voltage going into that circuit and therefore doesn’t shut it
down..When you turn on the headlights you’ll notice the heater controls and
stereo don’t light up at the same instant as the gauges- this is
normal..signals from the lighting controller maybe bad on yours

fupabox says:

thanks from Canada 🙂

fupabox says:

that’s odd…the odometer ,clock, and outside temp digital displays should
stay on for a minute after the car is turned off but not the gauges..sounds
like there is a crossed connection somewhere..check the wiring connectors
for maybe a bent pin …do the gauge lights eventually go out ? do the
digital displays stay on for a minute then shut off?

fupabox says:

just taking a shot in the dark…have you checked if turning the interior
light switch to off will make them go out ?

Carlos Guevara says:

Good technique in this video!!! I just got my cluster out and replaced a
busted bulb in no time. First, I fabricated a pullout tool from a stainless
steel coat hanger, bent the tips around half inch on each. I inserted the
fabricated tool by the buttons of the cluster around 4 inches, twisted the
tool and then gently pulled. I guided the cluster out to the right side
with the steering wheel. The wires on the right really are short as seen in
the video. Thank you for making my life easy!!

Baerchenization says:

You should have detailed the car for a week and sold it as new instead 😉

fupabox says:

there is a bulb in the back of the speedometer that lights up the digital
odometer

Kaman Dragoo says:

Thanks man! it worked!

fupabox says:

your cluster would pull out the same way…a hex key is too short..I find a
wire coat hanger the easiest…one of the thin metal strips in a wiper
blade would work as well (the 2 thin metal strips that run the length of
the rubber blade and hold it onto the wiper arm)

fupabox says:

yes it will work for most Mercedes models

Gabriel Zanandrea says:

Since you really know a lot about this car, I have the same one, and the
remote for my fey broke. The car still starts and everything, but I would
like to have the remote working again. do you know where I would buy it?

sc47man says:

Thank you for this, hopefully it’s very similar in right hand drive fashion.

geray gerayli says:

evet super

twinkiememphis says:

QUESTION: My remote just stopped working one day. Is there a place that I
can take it to that can test and hopefully fix it? I don’t have 250 for a
new one…..

TOLULOPE AKINRINMADE says:

Ok… Thanks for the tip. But what should I search for @ ebay or Amazon?
“Mercedes C180 LCD Display Ribbon”

fupabox says:

@sc47man should be exactly the same….By the way if you do dent the vinyl
on the dash under the gauge cluster, you can use a lighter and GENTLY warm
the dented area and pinch it back into shape with your fingers…it will
stay once cooled…

fupabox says:

@gfrabaa you’re right about not leaving the key on while unplugging an
electrical connector because if you cross the connector pins you may fry
something….

phrojas says:

how do you fixed the lights in the odometer?

Stig's Italian Cousin says:

Awesome video. I’ve been thinking about replacing the bulbs with white led
bulbs to give it a “newer” kind of look. I own a 94 C220 and I noticed that
the cluster is a little different than your C230, but I’m assuming that
they come out the same way, correct? Could I use a pick with a 90 degree
angle and pull out a bit with that? Or maybe small a hex key? Thanks!

fupabox says:

it could simply be the wire connections in back of the gauge
cluster..unhook the negative battery terminal and take off all the gauge
wiring connectors and put them back on..then re-hook up the battery…with
gauges it is usually a minor grounding fault in back of the cluster

geray gerayli says:

azerbaijan mercedes benz love

fupabox says:

you are very welcome

fupabox says:

you’re very welcome 🙂

wreckedcarzz says:

Since you seem to be staying active with comments on this video, I’ve got a
question while I’m here (about to go try and replace my odo bulb now): The
Canadian W202s had automatic daytime running lights via the low-beams. I’m
down in the US, wondering if you would know if it would be possible to gain
that functionality on mine. I haven’t browsed benzworld or anything yet,
just came to mind.

fupabox says:

check my video on testing and repairing the Mercedes remote key-less leys

Kaman Dragoo says:

Alright i have the exact same Gauge cluster as you and all the lights work
and the odometer works…. but the needles do not. can you help me out?

fupabox says:

just search “mercedes pixel” and you will find a ton

fupabox says:

there are pixel fading issues that need a new display ribbon to fix..I have
seen them on ebay and Amazon, but have never had to replace one..your bulb I
would think ,is still illuminating, but the LCD display ribbon is failing
from age and the ..you could try a new bulb ,but I’m pretty sure it’s the
numeric display ribbon that is bad..from what I have seen it seems pretty
simple to replace

fupabox says:

good info 🙂

fupabox says:

for the seats check the relay under the trunk mat by the fuse panel (wait
till the seats won’t move and then wiggle the relay around) you can re-tin
the relay (open it up and heat the solder joints with a soldering iron and
let them re-form) or replace it,but I think the relay is around $80 so
re-tinning is obviously much cheaper..I’ll see what I can do with the pixel
display video…thanks 🙂

Nima someh says:

thnx for the vid man love your videos on c230s keep it up.

fupabox says:

back of the gauge cluster and re-plugging them back in

Rich OBrien says:

can you do a video on replacing the cluster pixel ribbons? mine is
pixelized on all the displays. yours doesn’t seem to have this problem but
im looking for a walkthrough on swapping the dead screens with new ones i
ordered on ebay. haven’t received them yet but supposedly there’s some
sautering involved. another major issue is that sometimes my seat controls
don’t work. its random, sometimes they get power, sometimes they don’t. im
baffled by this. love your videos, know you’re worrking on the
