DIY Roof Rail Install (on Mercedes Sprinter)

DIY Roof Rail Install (on Mercedes Sprinter)

This is my installation vid for a custom roof track install on my Sprinter. It’s a cheaper thing to do but can be hard to find all the materials especially the track itself.

David McMillan says:

Thanks for a great video. I got some countersunk 5mm SS screws and washers etc but they look quite lightweight for the job Have you found them satisfactory?

trevor Byron says:

Extracting your plastic rivets, I didn't use this heat gun. Use a long nose pliars and crimp the section protruding on the inside, cash they have lock-in pins. Then push out

Joe Lin says:

Question: what is the diameter of the hole on roof of the the sprinter van once the plug is removed? I want to use the rivet nuts to fit the railing as the interior is already filled with cabinets. Is that possible? Thanks.

Adam Wallace says:

Thank you so much for this video. Got a 5m rail delivered today! Quick question…Do you think you needed to mastic tape the whole length or could you have just put a patch where the holes are? Only asking as I have a bit spare and not sure if I need to buy another roll. Also what length bolts did you use? Thanks!

N H says:

Where did you get the track from?

firpofutbol says:

Do the rails stop at the very front and back of the rail space of the van, or do they stop a few inches short on one side or another? I believe the total length of the rail space is 163".

N H says:

Where did you get the track from?

Dave Hope says:

Thanks for a great video. I was sweating for you there when it nearly didn’t fit!
Have you managed to find brackets that fit in those rails? Is it a standard size?
Cheers

Kombi Life says:

Hey Thanks for this, for some reason these rails are really hard to come by in the UK. None of the main roof equipment manufacturers sell them in Britain (that I have found so far) although they all do in the US. Cheers and happy travels

Memyselfandvan says:

Thanks for your video, I too have a black van, the VW Crafter which is the same as the Sprinter, and I wish to carry out the exact thing you carried out in this video, so thats so much for there links to the parts etc. Subscribed.

The only product link missing is the rails/tracks themselves, where did you purchase those from?

Chappy's Garage says:

Nice, going to need to find a supplier for the track like that in the US. Been wanting to add solar to my sprinter also and would rather not pay Mercedes prices for the factory style rails.

AD -VAN-TURE says:

hiya.nice job …do you happen to recall the company you got the aluminium profiles from …been looking around but cant find the rail you fixed to roof !

waine dodd says:

you look like Chevy Chace

Greg Steffenson says:
