This was a great video, very easy to follow the step-by-step instructions! I was able to quickly and easily change out the CSP sensor on my 2007 S550. Unfortunately this did not correct my start up issue. The car behaves exactly as your demonstration in the video, after multiple attempts (5-20) the car will start and run perfectly. There are no notifications on the dash. Do you have any other suggestions to correct this problem? What else could cause the car to behave this way during start up?

I think we pay a lot of overhead to have a dealership service our vehicles. It may be the convenience and confidence that the repair is warrantied is worth it to some but I had overspending.

Wow!!!.Is that it?.Great vid,thankyou,youve just saved me a fortune!!!!

I had this done on my 1996 C220 and was billed $457. I looked it up on AutoMD after I got the bill and complained that I was over charged. AutoMD says this should cost between $308 and $338 for parts and labor. Its rated at 1.8 hours labor. I suppose there is some value to the diagnosis, but since this is such a common problem, a good technician should be able to analyze this very quickly, I would think

Thanks for the video! Definitely helped out.. my s500 died on my last night in the middle of the road..got towed home last night, and replaced the cps this evening…Everything seems back to normal so far.. Thanks

Great video…MB dealer just charged me $565 for this apparently simple job.

sh9512 says:

Do you know if the CPS is located in the same place on a 2004 SL500?

Most of us don’t have torx sockets,Just changed mine and a 1/4 by 1/4 12 point socket works fine.

i have a 2007 E-350 and the engine keeps turning off suddenly while runing and comes back on, sometimes it wont start untill i pull to the side and try a couple of minutes later. do you think i may be having the same problem? also check engine comes on and off.

blinx197 says:

Just tried this on my c55 tonight,… there is absolutely no room between the engine and the firewall in the car, I hate to say it but if I can’t get it next weekend I may be taking it to the stealership:-( nice and helpful video though

i had a s500 for the past year. i put 10k miles on it and during that, i had to replace the gas pedal and the sensor. it has hit 100k miles but the car drives like no other my old infinti fx35 required a 1,500 dollar service fee. and its an 2006. my 01 w220 is pretty reliable

I paid 600$ for this repair at the dealer on my c240. I feel so ripped off.

rungsat1 says:

I had to also replace the camshaft sensor on the front of the engine. If you get a new Crankshaft Sensor it is highly recommended you also replace the front Camshaft sensor. If they dont agree the symptoms will stay. I also used electrical cleaner and dielectric grease on the Camshaft sensor wire connectors as engine oil can seep in the connector and casue faults. Checking both the Camshaft sensor and wires helped alot.

antolaclient01 says:

Thanks so much for your advice and video, I used a flat screw driver and finally was able to wiggle out the sensor. The new CPS is in and so far it is working beautifully. I will now try to replace the CPS in my wife’s 06 ML 500 which is also starting to fail.

randalldryan says:

It could be that you are not successfully pinching the cable clip to operate the release. Be sure you feel the clip move. If the clip is moving but you cannot remove it, it could be that heat has fused the cable to the sensor. Try to remove the torx bolt and see if you can remove the cable and sensor. It will be very tight but it could be possible. If you can get it out you have a lot more options to separate the cable once you have the sensor out where you can see it.

antolaclient01 says:

I own a 2003 Mercedes Benz E 500 with the same symptoms and followed your step by step procedure, however, the connector seems to be stuck on the sensor. I have tried using WD 40 to loosen it up with no luck. Any suggestions?

Baerchenization says:

Dunno where you are, but only a few days ago, I bought one of those OBD dioagnosis tools. For some reason, Amazon were smashing them out greatly reduced at 11 Pounds, only. So I bought one, even though I don’t even have a car right now 😛 – Ships from China, took less than a week to GB.

Great vid, btw, I was always hestitant to buy one of these once-expensive cars, as I am afraid the maintenance costs would explode over my head. It’s good to see there is a lot that can be done DIY.

Thank you for your excellent video.

Bruiser Brody says:

You are an awesome man!! My car stalled on me early today in the parking lot. I managed to get it started again, took it to Autozone & got it scanned (free). Retrieved code p0335, crank sensor ($56). Bought the torx sockets ($8). The info you provided was priceless, thank you so very much! Now I have a nice project for fathers day.

paco lermas says:

Wow, you just save me 275 for the part+ 180.00 labor that the local dealer Hoy fox Mercedes Benz want to charge me, now I can do it my self

randalldryan says:

Many issues could be the cause – take your vehicle to a parts store and have them hook up the diagnostic computer when the engine is already warmed up. It may show the history of the fault even if the fault is not currently active.
Best to you.

randalldryan says:

Sorry about your issues. It would seem unusual that both parts you received from two vendors were defective. Is it possible the wire or circuit could be damages due to a crimp, short or exposure to heat? You might inspect the wiring well and possible move it around and try to restart. BEst to you in your search.

Neil Berrow says:

Thanks for the video, I hope that the sensor is located in the same place as my A180

mohd nawajha says:

i have 1999 mercedes s500 , engine stops suddenly without showing any default on monitor , are the crank sensor is the reason?

rungsat1 says:

Id did the CPS on a 2004 Mercedes c240. The car ran and started perfectly for a day. Next morning it would turn over but wouldnt start. This is the second cps I changed, thinking the first part was a defective part. The OBDII code “P0335 – Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction” has returned. Do you have any suggestions on what could be still wrong? This is the second sensor Ive changed first being from NAPA and the current one from pepboys. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

randalldryan says:

no reprogramming required.
