It’s recommended that when changing the pump to take the theromstat out and
run the engine to get the coolant out of the block and fresh in… Can this
be done WITH the fan off or does one have to reattach the fan then take the
fan back off when they put the thermostat back in for the last time to
properly fill it? Thanks, -Nigel

I’m about to do this this weekend along with the theromstat… I was
wondering how the hell to get the fan off… Not really looking forward to
doing all of this on my 2001 ranger, but it has to get done, don’t think
the thermostat OR pump has been changed and it’s got 138k miles on it…
I’ve noticed that my temp has gone up too, probably cause the pump is bad..
I’ll ask my second question in the next post that I have as well. Thanks!
Great video!! -Nigel

Thank you! It is always great to hear that i helped someone. This truck is
over 300k miles at this point and do for another round of fixing. Are they
any repairs on yours you wish you could have seen a video for. I never
really know what repair videos would be what people want to see.

Great video! I found it very helpful . I’m gonna have to do this job again
soon. 🙁 I’ve done this before, so this is a nice refresher for me.

A few pointers i’d like to offer: change the thermostat before reinstalling
the water pump. The t-stat housing bolts (2) are very easy to access and
the change out takes very little time with everything out of the way – well
worth it compared to having to do it later. Also, change the lower radiator
hose and the section of heater hose that exits the water pump while you
have easier access to them. Lastly, use “High Tac(k) – follow the
directions to keep the gaskets in place during reassembly.

Maybe show how to put in distributor.

if you’re doing requests, I have a question: how do you compress the spring
on the timing belt tensioner without the mystical ‘tension release tool’
that nobody seems able to find? I’m doing timing belt, tensioner, and water
pump on my 97 and THIS is my sticking point! Thanks!
