Robert Smith says:

Great video. I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that gets the code p0171 to
lean bank 1. I have had a tune up, changed oil, cleaned the Mass Flow
Sensor, put a new upstream 02 sensor. My code reader still saids p0171 to
lean bank 1. I cant hear a vacumn leak. Is there a way to check the Mass
Flow Sensor, i guess it could be bad but they usually dont go bad.

Drew927 says:

brian hey i got the p0171 and 174 onb a 99 sierra. my code says fueld
system trim to lean on both banks. does this mean my fuel system isnt
right? or my engine is getting to much air? i check your vids thoses MAS
and vacum lines looked ok. what is your thought on it?

juiced71 says:

ok thank you for your reply, i will check some of the things you said
,thanks man !

briansmobile1 says:

@Drew927 EGR valve can cause those symptoms too if it gets stuck open.

fishmeer says:

WHO EATS ME LUCKY CHARMS ????

Doug Orlob says:

But were is it?

briansmobile1 says:

@videosmithlaguna Check the little pipe to the EGR valve as well as carbon
build up in the EGR valve. Also carefully inspect the intake boot for
cracks.

Jason Brelsford says:

Awesome I’m gonna give it a shot

Drew927 says:

@briansmobile1 thx man. ya makes sense. iya when i give it gas at a stop
light ,exspecial uphile it shuders and the breifly stalls then goes foward
again. before i hooked up to comp i thought my transition was going out

briansmobile1 says:

you bet! Thanks for your support on youtube!

briansmobile1 says:

@deathviakevin You’re most welcome!

briansmobile1 says:

Check it over carefully to determine how the clip or buckle operates. Once
you’re confident how it’s to be undone, do that and wiggle the plug firmly,
but gently side to side while pulling it away from the MAF.

briansmobile1 says:

GEL be eat’n da lucky charms all up’n Ohio ya know what I’m say’n?

James Crowton says:

Brian, I would like to thank you for this video! Im a DIY person who does
allot of work on my vehicle. When I purchased my truck I had code P0171.
Well, I paid a mechanic to do a smoke test and he couldnt figure it out
till he went into it some more. So, I saw your video on here and I replaced
my MAF sensor with a new one and cleared the codes & it didnt come back!!
Your a life saver!! Goes to show that I need to check with your videos
before I pay someone, who doesnt know what hes doing 🙂

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome!

briansmobile1 says:

It’s an issue of air/fuel metering that your van is getting too much air
per fuel. It’s either a fuel restriction (such as a fuel filter) or too
much air (vacuum leak or a dirty mass air flow sensor as pictured in this
link)

Parameswara Reddy says:

cool. My car had similar issue and i need to clean now.. do i need to reset
the code? if yes, how?

friedchicken1981 says:

my ford focus shuts off within a second i turn it on, it only does it when
cold.. i cleaned the MAF i tried disconnect it and turn car on.. all the
same 🙁

Ima co says:

I had the P0171 on my mazda protege .. I went to a mechanic and he checked
everything and he said the PCV valve is too dirty and just clean it … I
cleaned it and reset and no problem after 50 miles ..Is it true that the
code is related to the Pcv valve ?

buhleedatt says:

Hey thanks a lot for the info. I’ve got this same code reading on my 2002
sport trac… Gonna try and tackle it this weekend.

briansmobile1 says:

Sorry. My buddy was kind enough to volunteer to film, but it was his first
time.

briansmobile1 says:

@mailtoparam Ya. You can disconect the PCM fuse, disconnect the battery, or
you can use a scan tool.

nabil113 says:

@briansmobile1 Fuel pressure regulator selenoid, i guess

Eric Ver Linden says:

IAT (Intake Air Temperatue(** And no, that WAS the MAF. And IAT is very
different looking.

jaberwocky6669 says:

Clogged EGR passages are very common on my 1997 Protege. They are the
culprit for many problems that creep up.

Paul DE GUZMAN says:

hi i have a question. i have an 08 evo x and it just says service engine
soon, so i went to a local auto parts and haev them run the obd for me and
it says po171 bank 1 the day after the light went away but it still reads
on the obd that i still have the same code going on. what do u think it is?

briansmobile1 says:

Check the integrity of the intake boot too.

Filthy Skinner says:

thanks man, helps alot, i have a 01 gti and i got the same problem with it,
a quick clean up did the trick!

briansmobile1 says:

@mlgneo Check the intake boot for cracks. If all ok check for carbon build
up at the EGR valve ports and vacuum tube/pipe.

Ima co says:

I cleaned the sensor but I still have the same code and problem even after
reset it … Should I change the sensor and buy buy new one ? Is it
possible that is for PCV Valve or Oxygen sensor ?

juiced71 says:

hey brian, qestion,, i have a 2000 ford winstar and i am getting a code
p0174, lean bank 2 was wondering if you could point me in the right
direction with this problem, thank you in advance,,

MRkillafornia777 says:

Good info!! can made give out info on Honda civic thanks.

MrPrios1 says:

Actually, DO NOT touch the sensor wire with anything, use MAF cleaner only
or you can damage it.

James Crowton says:

Im having the same problem on my vehicle, but I have a 2003 saturn vue and
it says bank one and bank two are too lean.. I know its the mass air flow
sensor.. but I did clean it out a while ago and the code was still on? do
you think if I take it off and clean it better it will work or just get a
new one? thanks

gorrila says:

hey i have 1999 honda accord and im getting code p0171, tried to look for d
mass air flow sensor but could not find it! any advice? pls. get at me
thnks!

Ima co says:

Thanks … I went to a mechanic and he checked all parts and he said
everything is Ok … I changed the MAF sensor , Clean the Pcv Valve , All
lines and hoses are true and no vacum leak … I am confused and I am
student and I don`t wanna pay a lot money … but the Engine rev is low and
lack of power , it should be on 750 but it is on 400 500 and go up and down
when it is on D when I stop anywhere … some one told me can be for Oxygen
sensor , EGR , Exhaust or . I don`t wanna change any parts

briansmobile1 says:

@videosmithlaguna Check your PCV hoses, and check your exhaust manifold for
cracks or broken off studs. That could do it too.

mlgneo says:

I replaced my MAF and EGR and still have the p0171 code. I can’t pass
inspection with it and I really need my stickers, if anybody has any help
please let me know. thank you!

montefiveforty1 says:

That would be the AIT (air intake temp) section of the sesnsor, the mass air
would be down inside the tube wich can be cleaned with sensor spray cleaner

baldwinplayer says:

You missed a great opportunity to simply turn the camera and show exactly
where the part in question is located.

briansmobile1 says:

@Jcal022 Could be. I’ve seen that before.

briansmobile1 says:

You could have a bad intake boot, pluged EGR passages, bad O2 sensor B1S1,
or a vacuum leak.

briansmobile1 says:

@nabil113 I wonder if your computer is bad????

gorrila says:

actually its a V6 3.0 liter, is it possible that my car dont have the mass
air flow sensor?

danielpeterchicago says:

Very helpful. Keep up the good work Brian!

friedchicken1981 says:

it is a 2000 1.8liter ford focus (i live in italy)

Robert Smith says:

Exhaust manifold had some small cracks and I had machine shop weld them.
Cleared the code and it came back on. Replaced PCV valve again with a new
one, cleared code and it came back on.. Can hear no vacumn leak. Could it
be a bad Mass Flow Sensor, I have cleaned it twice not. Thank You

mrd john says:

im gonna guess you had to buy a new maf after touching that one with a
cotton swab.

briansmobile1 says:

I can only guess you’re loosely referring to the MAF sensor. It’s located
between the air filter housing upper half and the cracked intake boot.
