Yes. Absoutley crap cars. Most Mazdas are very prone to rust. Already have the problem with rust and clogged drainage, and flood into the driver’s side of the car. Have to take out the cowel twice a year to unclog the drains. Under body is very rusty. Rear wheel wells are rusted half way through now. Will not buy another Mazda (unless the price is right). Absoulte garbage.

unfortunately you sort of have to live with it..The Protege5 had a very poorly designed air venting and cowl drainage that blocks up with leaves and dirt (allows too much of both to enter) and quickly rusts the car through from the inside ..if you have wet carpets, the drains under the hood are prob. blocked ..

Thanks for the confirmation. Is there any way to reduce/minimize the amount of dust and leaves from getting into the cabin? Like sticking some sort of (those fish-net-like bath sponges) or something to into the intake openings? Or do you pretty much have to live with the problem?

fupabox says:

the north american versions don’t… I believe the European and Japanese cars do …the leaves are coming in at the base of the windshield under the plastic vent covers

Macky1101 says:

Do you know if the 2002 Protege5 has a cabin air filter?

I suspect they don’t because I get a lot of little leafs and dust when I turn on my a/c or heat.

Can you tell me where the outside dust and leafs are coming in through?
Is it coming in through the intake at the front of the car behind the front grill?

Thanks.
