Thanks so much for your video, used it today together with the one from 888-werkes and had no problem adding android auto to a 2016 Mx-5. Definitely prefer your approach to the cabling. Used your video for 90% of the work, but having the second video for comparison was useful in a couple places. Only thing I could suggest for anyone looking at these comments, when it comes time to pull the cabling down to the new usb connection box, it makes things a lot easier if you use a stiff piece of wire to find the route and then pull the tape wrapped usb cables with the wire.

Thank you for making this tutorial! I performed this installation this evening using this video and the process was flawless. Taking my time it took me less than two hours. The most difficult part for me was running the cables through the dash because of how tight it is in that area. Putting it all back together was much faster than taking it apart. I'm very happy I did this upgrade.

For those that are researching the same thing for their Mazda, I did the firmware update the night before. I had to update to two different versions. The first update was the failsafe and reinstallation files for 70.100. After that was completed I updated to 70.367, which only requires the reinstallation file. I installed both firmware updates in a little over an hour total.

I am a bit late to the game for this, but thank you. I did install the Panasonic back up camera last year, and did not think I would need the car play, but now I really want it for the maps.
I don't care for the Mazda navigation system.

Shakunt Tambe says:

Great thanks! Did my MX-5 ND with no issues following this.

Just The Dad says:

Thank you so much! I completed this project on a 2019 mx5. It does take about 3 hours. My wife will never drive a manual. So, due to the auto it did add more time and complexity. If you have an auto, the forms do not recommend removing the shift knob. Put it in ā€œNā€ and remove the negative battery cable and get ready to move the console a lot.

Michael Abild says:

Dude thanks so much for posting this. I found it super helpful with my install in my 2016 mx5 šŸ™‚

Thanks for the video. Followed along today. Was an easy process.

James Daley says:

Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal prior to install?

Kevin B says:

Great video! I followed step by step and this was a clear outline of everything that needs to be done. It's so nice to have carplay in my MX-5 now. Thanks!

Mustangs&Miatas says:

Great video and thanks again for
Saving me serval hundred dollars!!!! Truly appreciated and well done!

AJ Mayfield says:

Before opening the dash, always disconnect the car battery. There's an airbag in there!

Haggler says:

Just finished this install, one tip – I couldnt get the connector out for the mazda cmu controls (the knobb). So I realized I was able to pop up just the area around the shifter boot connected to the plastic fake metal and matt surface. This was a lot easier.

Goku SoN says:

nifareus says:
