JT Quick says:

You are turning counter-clockwise. Anti-seize comes on some sensor threads
from factory. Just make sure to put light coat and NOT touch anything but
threads. Also OHM meter reading should be .005 to be perfect. When it goes
up or down from there, that is when PCM compensates. Surprised you didn’t
go with Factory Jap Brand , Seeing it a Jap Car. I found OEM Brand sensors
last alot longer and built to exact spec which relates to best MPGS

DJDevon3 says:

I would ask that on MX6.com

nick potella says:

is the o2 sensor in the same location on later models like 00′ and up?

sherp2u1 says:

Thanks for that! I was about to screw something up, lol!

DJDevon3 says:

Yes yes I’m an idiot. πŸ˜›

DJDevon3 says:

I4’s have it easy. Only have 1 O2 sensor to replace. πŸ™‚

kamsmx696 says:

ok thanks man well im 15 going on 16 next month my uncle let me have his
mx6 which it has been sitting in the back of my grand parents drive way for
7 years im fix alot of stuff on it thanks for the info by the way

Joe Drager says:

CCW to loosen!

DJDevon3 says:

I’m going off of what the Mazda factory workshop manual says. Perhaps it’s
different for Lexus. Do you have access to a Lexus factory manual? I’d look
into that. Everything I’ve read from the Mazda side of things always says
don’t use anti-seize, grease, or sealant of any kind for installation of
the O2 sensors.

mrjost55 says:

You say to NOT put any anti seize on the threads, but I just bought a new
Denso Air/Fuel sensor for me Lexus ES and it came with copper anti seize. I
put it on during installation.

h2oeddownazn says:

You set your multimeter to read up to 2000 ohms, which means that the
display will be in kilo-ohms. .006 kilo-ohms is 6 ohms.

Zoobiesnot says:

The O2 sensor was likely OK. I’ve changed them on a whim, or could I say
under suspecion of them being failed, and if they aren’t a wideband sensor,
then they are cheap. Like doing a tuneup… plugs, distributor cap & rotor,
pcv valve… might as well do the O2. It’s so critical to getting a good
running motor, and are usually pretty cheap.

DJDevon3 says:

Don’t really need a video on that. 93-97 it’s below your center console on
the MTX basically below your shifter. On the ATX it’s located in the same
place but a little more forward under the radio. The CPU is located above &
behind the fusebox by the drivers foot. CPU & ECU are 2 different things
just FYI. PCM is also a part of the ECU so for all intent and purposes it’s
the same thing as the ECU in terms of a physical module.

DJDevon3 says:

You can see remnents of a horrible paint job I did long ago on the engine
bay. I’ve since gone back and had the valve cover powder coated blue. The
ignition wires are purchased as blue and are the most commonly purchased
wire set for the 626. They are NGK ZX40. If you have a choice go with the
RC version of the ZX40’s because they are upgraded and much better than the
old ZX40 wires. You can get them in different colors if you make your own
wire set which I have a video of too. πŸ˜‰

Jonathan Campbell says:

You do realize you loosened that turning counter-clockwise….. not
clockwise….

4thTheHolocaust says:

thanks this should help alot, but mine is just in a different place, its a
2002

kamsmx696 says:

Well thats the thing i didn’t have a remote from the start but it said it
was compatible with my year which is a 1993. and by the way where did you
get your front clear side markers from? why i ask that because i have the
rear clear side markers i can’t find any front ones

DJDevon3 says:

Nick, the O2 sensor location is the same on the 4th gen (93-97) and 5th gen
(98-02) yes… however you also need to know that the 5th gen due to OBD-II
and stricter emissions regulations have a 2nd O2 sensor farther down the
pipe. If you have an O2 related issue you’ll need to figure out which one
is notifying you of the issue. Also worth noting some 4th gens have a 2nd
O2 sensor purely due to when California’s stricter emissions laws came into
effect. These are known as California 626’s.

Ramen Truck says:

Thank you for the quick reply! I recently purchased a ’97 626 and I’m
trying to spruce it up. It feels a little cluttered so I was happy to see
how organized a 626 could be. Thanks again!

strategies69 says:

when a Mazda RX-8 heats up , it stalls and won’t start until it cools down
say an hour or two. What could be the cause of such technical crux?

DJDevon3 says:

Only took 1.5 years for someone to notice that. Good catch. When using a
multimeter sometimes I’ll just set it and round the decimal up myself. I
still knew that it was at 6-7 ohms when I think spec called for 9 ohms at
that temperature. It was running a little on the low side regardless of
what the multimeter was set on. Good catch though.

DJDevon3 says:

Oh and that only applies the 4-cylinder. The 6-cylinder has a different
amount of O2 sensors usually 3 but California V6 626’s might have 4.

kamsmx696 says:

I need too get some new o2 sensors for mine 1993 mazda mx6 5 speed v6

DJDevon3 says:

Get yourself a 94 ECU of the same type, add the keyless entry module, run
the wiring, and basically upgrade the system yourself. Eventually I plan on
upgrading/piggybacking a 96 ECU just so I can have the trunk release button
on the remote to work. πŸ™‚ That’s a future project I’ll probably cover once
all my mechanical issues are sorted.

kamsmx696 says:

hey can you do a video of where the ECU located at i do really know where
its at

DJDevon3 says:

Register over at MX6.com if you haven’t already. Best resource in the world
for MX-6 owners. πŸ˜‰

DJDevon3 says:

It’s not clockwise. It’s counter-clockwise. It’s just the direction I was
unscrewing it was opposite so it seemed wrong. Everything is normal there I
was the one that was backwards. Doh. πŸ˜›

DJDevon3 says:

You can have the dealership look up your VIN and maybe get you the correct
FCC ID for your car. They usually make you come in for that and prove
you’re the owner of the car first which is good policy. For the side
markers get on Mazda626.net and do a search for Clear Side Markers
Confusion. Read it.

kamsmx696 says:

by the way why my remote that i order from ebay doesn’t work for my 1993
mazda mx6 i did the same stuff you did?

DJDevon3 says:

Did you match the FCC ID# on both remotes? They must be exactly the same.

DJDevon3 says:

I would look into the ignition system obviously, particularly the ignition
coil whether that is in the distributor, coil pack, or coil on plug differs
from car to car. For the RX-8 I believe it’s a coilpack and has a separate
ignition coil similar to how the Automatic 626’s operate. I’m not a
mechanic so please do your own research or better yet take it in for
service at a Mazda dealership. πŸ˜‰

kenneth Martinez says:

Hi Dj, I just bougth a 1997 mazda 626 4 cilynder. I am having a problem
with a o2 sensor. The scaner reads this code “P1131” any help with that?
and I was wondering where did you get the intake? I want one like that..
thanks πŸ™‚

Ramen Truck says:

Did you paint your engine and spark wires or were they purchased like that?
Thanks!

sherp2u1 says:

DJ, are all the fourth generations Mazda O2 sensors clockwise to unthread?
I have a Euro spec car? Thanks!

DJDevon3 says:

Oh and you’ll know the ECU when you see it. It looks like a computer hard
drive with lots of wires sticking out the back.

kamsmx696 says:

well i found out that the 93 model didn’t have keyless entry

kamsmx696 says:

So is alot of work getting it out and is it any wires I need with it?

DJDevon3 says:

Yeah I knew that. Was just seeing if anyone was paying attention. OK not
really. I feel stupid.
