Hey Devon, I’ve got my self a 91 protege same problem, crank no start. Any
suggestions?
Just tested my relays, 98 Mazda 626 4cyl.. They all seem to be working
New fuel pump
Has spark
No fuel in fuel filter
It will turn over. Won’t crank unless its shot with starting fluid then it
will for a few moments.
I’m not too sure what it is. This car sat for a few years. Only 38k miles.
Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks in advance
Define cheap. I got my exhaust done at a local exhaust shop for about $120
from the cat back. No new cat but did get a new muffler. I think that’s
very cheap.
I thinking of doing the exhaust on my 2000 626 for kinda cheap. Any
suggestions?
That’s a very impressive looking engine bay!
Dead battery, loose battery terminal, faulty starter or starter solenoid.
Kind of depends on the sound and how far it’s turning over.
1st generation Mazda 626 = 1978-1982 2nd generation Mazda 626 = 1983-1987
3rd generation Mazda 626 = 1988-1992 4th generation Mazda 626 = 1993-1997
5th generation Mazda 626 = 1998-2002 1st generation Mazda MX-6 = 1988-1992
2nd generation Mazda MX-6 = 1993-1997 That’s why you hear people discuss
the 4th gen 626 compatibility with the 2nd gen MX-6. They are different
generations but produced the same years and at the same exact factory.
Sorry I never saw this comment here, pretty late getting back to you. If
you can play with it and it starts then that sounds like a loose connection
such as loose terminal pins that hold the relay in place inside the fuse
box itself.
i notice your battery cables can you help me out how to install it i got a
1996 626 LX 2.0 4cyl. also i my tranny overheating,does it help to add
auxiliary transcooler
Thank you DjDevon will test mine tomo 🙂
Bad fuel pump and coil pack wow. That must have been a headache to
diagnose. Double whammy. Glad the video helped you. Thank you for letting
me know that, makes my day when one of my videos helps someone.
thank you!!!
got the same problem i heard clicking sound and i just play with it until
it start, don’t know whats wrong with
An aux transmission cooler isn’t going to help after the fact. It’s a
preventative maintenance measure. If you’ve already burned up your tranny
then installing a cooler isn’t going to help. As for the battery cables you
just take the old leads off and put the new ones on. It’s simple as baking
a pie.
how do you know what generation you have? I have a 1999
question, how would you replace the fuel pump? i’m getting mixed answers,
but i see that you are truly an expert. . . i have a 97 626 with a 2.0L V4.
so, where would the fuel pump be, and how can i replace it?
The car will run like that? Had no clue. That could be a very handy
diagnostic tool. Got a link to a topic where I can read up on it?
I’m not an expert. I’m not even a technician of any kind. Thank you for the
compliment though. If you search through my playlist of “Instructional
Videos” there will be a video on there on replacing the fuel pump. I did
not make that video but it has all of the information you need. The fuel
pump is inside of the fuel tank. The entire fuel tank must be lowered in
order to get at it. It’s not an easy job and it’s dangerous because it’s…
filled with gasoline.
My chick’s 2002 4cyl just died. She started it after letting it sit up for
a month, then tried to start it again 2 minutes later and it wouldnt start.
Battery was good, but a wire cam loose on the starter. Got it cranking
again but still wouldn’t start. Pulled off the fuel filter and checked for
pressure, bad fuel pump (good relays). Drop tank, replace pump, now I got
pressure. STILL no start. check for spark, no spark. Ohm’d out the coil
pack, bad. Replaced, car runs good! Thanks vid helpd
On my 626, sometimes I turn the key to start it and it makes this noise
like the starter doesn’t want to turn the motor over. What could this be?
I’ve just completed a fuel pump replacement video. It might be 4 months too
late for you but hey better late than never. 🙂
