tried to use the band style oil filter wrench. What a piece of shit. Didn’t grab on to the POS plastic cap at all. Whoever change this thing out must have gorilla torqued it back on.
Not a bad intro video, but somewhat incomplete. Before unscrewing the filter you should remove the filter plug with a 6mm allen key. This allows the oil that is trapped in the filter to drain out; otherwise you’ll get a filters worth of oil running down your arm when you unscrew it. Also you should replace the small O-ring on the filter plug, and the large O-ring on the black screw-in filter housing. These two replacement O-rings should come included with your new filter.
Hi, great tutorial btw! Couple of questions(dumb ones) since I also will be doing it for the first time.
1) Don’t we have to close the drain valve before we add new oil? I know it sounds stupid but I figured I will ask anyway
2) What filter are you using, is the K&M PS-7013?
3) I noticed you mentioned not to go over the ‘full’ limit on the dip stick. What quantity of oil does it usually take to reach that point of draining all of the old oil?
I have a question. I have a Mazda 6 too and am going to change the oil myself for the first time, 2w 20 is what is recommended, is there any reason why 5w 30 is being used?

Nice vid
hey do you know where the fuel filter is located on ur Mazda 6?
do i have to use the same oil as you did? or its my choice with the brand name 5w30
does the same applies to a mazda 6 2005?
Move Kitty! Lol
very good sir..i always skip the step of removing the filter plug cuz if i dont get dirty i feel like i didnt do nothing…:)
Also make sure you varm up the engine, then all the oil will come out very easy.

Of course u close the drain plug before adding the new oil!
Just add 3 quarts and then check with dipstick and keep adding and checking bit by bit.
Why does everyone keep using this cheapo crap GTX oil?!
Just use 5W30 synthetic… it’ll be just fine.
use whats recommended.!
