Ricardo Black says:

GAS CAP -PLEASE.. TO ALL THESE PPL ON HERE PRAISING THIS VIDEO, AND OTHER
VIDZ LIKE IT TO ‘CHEAT’… DON’T DO IT. ‘CHECK ENGINE’ MEANS ‘EXACTLY
THAT’.. ie. USUALLY CHANGE THE OIL/AND OIL FILTER. YOU THINK TRYING TO
TRICK THE COMPUTER WILL FIX A PROBLEM? IT’LL FUCK IT UP EVEN MORE.!

Steve Michael says:

Hmmmm…looks like a good tip. Will try tomorrow. The light just came on in
my car tonight.

Had not driven it for about 2 and a half months. And just changed to a new
battery too. Hopefully it’s just the electronics messing around and nothing
serious

KevinMillard68 says:

temp fix. code reader would be best then you know whats wrong then you fix
it then clear it . the battery trick does not fix the problem just makes
the light go away for awhile, one thing to also note on some cars when you
pull the battery good luck starting your car again unless you take it to
the dealer to be totally reprogrammed and that’s costly. good video tho.
P.S when pulling the battery Waite 10 min then reconnect it.

Ali Malik says:

will it clear abs warning light as well?please tell me i have mazda 2002
portege its abs and parking lights r on:(

james black says:

i need to know how to reset the clock as well please

arbon haliti says:

THANK GOD WORKED ON 2005 RENAULT MEGANE 1.9DCI :)

Diane Ranney says:

After spending $1200 in repairs and getting a new sensor my check engine
light is still on intermittently. The dealer says bring it back in and they
will see what else they can do. Yea, right! My daughter just needs to pass
her driving test so will reset and hope it lasts long enough.

Chris Crawford says:

Do your self a favor…any time you find a pair of vise grips in your tool
box or someone else’s, quietly take them out and place them in the garbage
can.

Maula Sefu says:

This worked for me…went to refill gas and the attendant never replaced
cap well ..Thanks Tampatec

Brandon Williams says:

Lmfao yo I thought I was the only one that did this trick man haha my C.E.L
come on random af sometimes on my 08 Eclipse n I just take the clamp off
the terminal n spark it a few times n boom its like I have a new car no
lights come on at all haha

Mike Mackie says:

This video is like when you call up IT to fix your work computer and then
speak with someone who’s less computer literate than you and they tell you
to turn it off then back on again.

false_mistakes says:

wow…can you please tell me how long that lasts

javier portillo says:

or you can just buy an obdII reader for like 40 bucks at any harbor
freights or online. it beats going to a mechanic or getting rid off the
light without knowing what’s wrong.

Cameron Wakenshaw says:

Hey Tampatec,

You reckon this will work on a Clio to deactivate the immobiliser?

Many thanks in advance

Ride4Life08731 says:

what this also does is clear the freeze frame data that gets recorded the
instant the code was set, data like throttle angle, engine temp, air temp,
veh speed and so on. this data is very useful in helping me diagnose the
car properly. please don’t do this then bring the car into my shop, it may
result in longer diagnostic time and my time costs you money.

David Boekhout says:

“BOOM ITS GONE”……….NOT THE PROBLEM!!! LMFAO!

Maybe Im not thinking this one through……Whats the point when you will
still fail emissons when OBD wont read anyways….then you have to put your
car through drive cycle anyways…..I guess if your embarrased you cant fix
your car and goin on a date?? Reset milage?? WTF?? why would it do that
every time your batt dies? There wouldnt be a car over 60K

At least you didnt bring it to the dealer…Keep up the DIY!!

Duncan MacKenzie says:

Don’t get dirty….

Randy Solara says:

lol what was that ? happy wife is a happy life ? hhahahaah i’m happy
without a wife bro lol, anways this trick will reset CHECK engine light but
for Toyota if you don’t fix the part the problem will still persist, this
trick is just a temporary fix or to reset the ECU after you fix or install
new Electrical part, if you don’t fix the part the light will come back.

Phen amenol says:

dont have this problem but i have stored the info so that if i am faced
with the problem i know what to do …thanks ….phenamenol (jamaica)

Mick Taylor says:

Not trying to nitpick but using vice grips to turn that clamp bolt could
result in rounding the nut. Better to use an open end wrench.

Brnaly5 says:

Thanks for this tip, Tampatec. I may have a faulty gas cap and will test it
to be sure.

Andrew S says:

yeah great but come on use a spanner to undo the battery clamp

Matthias Ybarra says:

thanks man! friggin awesome vid

Tomas Juscius says:

Conn computer good idea… But sometimes engine light comes just by
disconnecting any wire and its really great way just to switch off… And
save money …

Cheb Hafid says:

Didnt work on chevrolet cruze 2010

ace ban says:

It works to my car’ thanks. . .:)

Bill Noble says:

I’ve been waiting a month to take my daughters car to get slogged because
of the check light if this works I’m stoked

dollmm23 says:

My husband will do what you said in your video. I’ll post the results. We
have a Honda Civic 2004 and the engine light is on since about 10 months
ago. Everything seems to ok, but the light is still on. Thank you for
sharing.

Erik Garant says:

worked in my 2005 Toyota Corolla LE! thanks!

Dmitriy Bildeiko says:

Take your vehicle to Auto Zone they will clear it for your for free!

tiktak25 says:

Those who have newer cars hondas ect, should know when you disconnect power
your radio/stereo will lose its code and will not work. Be sure you have
your code handy or wait until dealership is open to get your code back

Amon Red says:

Black tape will fix it…:D

Ashley Bigler says:

So here’s how it works. If you disconnect the battery the check engine
light will go out temporarily. This is because you have reset the computer
in your car (ECU/ECM). You have several emissions devices that must now
complete a drive cycle. At this point after you have reset everything,
these devices will have a “not ready” status. Once you have driven it far
enough (Usually 50-100 miles) these devices will go ready one by one. When
the device or devices that have the problem go “ready” again your check
engine light will go back on. It’s trying to tell you something is wrong.
You will have trouble codes stored that need to be read and resolved.
Having a check engine or service engine soon light isn’t going to go away
until you fix the problem. Which may in some cases be the computer itself.
You won’t fool an emissions test resetting the light. Your test will say
“not ready” and they will instruct you to drive it. Take it to an autozone
or have it scanned to see what your trouble codes are. One easy one is an
EVAP code which usually indicates a bad gas cap that isn’t sealing. Quit
resetting your check engine lights guys and get it fixed! Hope this helps.

This only applies to cars made after 1995.

Jack Jackwho. says:

nice wrench Einstein !

Pratik Patel says:

will it be worked on Nissan Altima,1998???

Trent Gillis says:

How long does it stay off?

Bryan Walker says:

Thanks!

adrianjaye944 says:

OMG don’t do this, it resets the light, BUT if you take it for
a cleanair, when they put a tester on it will stay in “test” mode, in fact
when you start the car next time, you’ll see the CEL flash meaning its in
not ready mode. when its gone through its series of checks, the CEL will
come back on again… FIX the problem don’t reset the light… its like
putting a bandaid on a cut, which needs stitches? jeez bad advise

HouseCallAutoRepair says:

CAUTION!!!! — CAUTION!!!! — CAUTION!!!! — CAUTION!!!!

Not only is this a TEMPORARY fix (IF the problem WASN’T caused by a EVAP
“malfunction” caused by a bad gas cap), but CAN cause many NEW problems,
especially on NEWER cars. Your battery allows various modules throughout
your vehicle to store LEARNED information that help your car run the way it
should. Clearing this data will cause the “re-calibration process” to start
from scratch. SOME MODULES CAN NOT “RE-LEARN” AND MUST BE REPROGRAMMED
(“FLASHED”).
BE VERY CAREFUL TO CHECK YOUR OWNERS MANUAL FOR “BATTERY REPLACEMENT”
BEFORE DISCONNECTING YOUR BATTERY!

Linette K says:

LOL. Although this does work. Here’s a word of advise. Do not do this just
before going to get a smog check done. It will clear the light, this is
true but you will fail smog because the computer has to re-learn the
settings. That requires you to drive about 100 miles. After you drive
around for that amount of miles the computer will have all the setting
reset and you will pass smog. Trust me, it happened to me and for the exact
reason. Bad gas cap. Failed smog. Replaced the cap. Reset the CEL. Then
took it back for a retest and failed again….because I didn’t know about
having to put some miles on it first for the computer to re-learn. The smog
tech told me to put 100 miles on it and come back. So I jumped on the
freeway drove 100 miles, went back and passed smog, no problems. Costly
mistake. So, now you know what to do if your trying to do this just to pass
your smog test.

DomDiStroia says:

If you have a faulty fuel tank valve, the OBD would generate the same EVAP
diagnostic code. Consequently, the Check Engine light would come back on,
regardless of the performance of the fuel filler cap .

B Werry says:

dont do this light came on for a reason if its driving you crazy cover it
with a pic u like.or electrical tape. If you hate going to auto shops
invest in a scan tool there are phone apps that will do this as well. Get
one that will read data called PIDS worth the extra money as it will show
you freeze frame data a picture of the sensors on car and what they saw
when the code was set. YOU WIPE THIS INFO when you disconnect battery. Get
the code read however you decide Google the code and your vehicle you”ll
be surprised! removing battery wipes your KAM keep alive memory and now all
your computers learned values are gone theres a reason techs using battery
memory savers when replacing batteries and its not cuz people bitch about
the radio presets being gone Your light is on because your cars emissions
are high . so that means your wasting gas! ie money so every time you see
light come on just think about the wasted money. So in 4 months driving
around with light on you could have got a pocket scanner read the code got
a p0456 or 457 evap system leak checked you gas nope googled it found out
the evap vapor management valve on your model is prone to failure got a new
one for 25$ 2 screws bam replaced. DO NOT KEEP DRIVING YOUR CAR IF THE
LIGHT IS FLASHING. unless you feel like buying new Cat convertors with your
tune up. Sorry for long post but i hate crap like this.it does nuthin but
to create confusion for people. as a electrical/drive-ability tech im
willing to make this a forum if you have a issue reply ill help.until
tampatec takes this video down.

nice video man tkx
