Hi Mike, I got my antenna mast in the mail and fitted it. One thing I found was a great tip was i tried to feed it in but it didnt work it would take the leader about an 2 cm and then stop. I cut a little peice off the leader about 3mm, but it still didnt work, so I cut it at 45 degree angle, and bingo it took it straight away. Thanks again for your videos, I will have ago at a few more things. James in Australia / Red 1995 MX5 Miata.
You are a great teacher, Mike, and you do it with style! Thanks.
The King, spot on, nice video, many thanks
Thanks MiataKing. Your videos made my install easy. Removing the stuck metal sleeve to the brass sleeve in the tube, not so easy. After removing the motor, I was able to punch out the sleeves from the tube, then soaked the tubes in PB. Then was able to take them to the vise with the right size washer for the brass and the right size bolt to punch out the metal sleeve. Little abrasive pad and some lubricant and was able to reuse them, (phew!).
Thanks again, Mark
Hello Damsel Julie,

Hey Mike, got my parts and was able to replace the antenna mast thanks to your video! In addition to the mast, I needed the sleeve and the bushing for the chrome nut, which I was able to get from you as well. I had read on miata.net that, if you have an NB (which I do), the ‘teeth’ of the nylon leader should face the front of the car when you’re inserting it. I’m not sure if that’s necessary but I did it that way and it worked. Thanks for making these videos – Julie from Canada
Hello,
The nut should be secure but not over tight. The nut sits on a rubber bushing, so will not loosen up with vibrations. Good job on a problem mast.

Just watched your 2 videos on antenna repair. I have a 95 M-edition, only 49k miles! Previous owner tried repair but mast didn’t fully retract. I took the motor apart, referenced your videos often, fished out the old nylon lead in the gear, put everything back together! My only issue is the mast itself is a very tight fit & I had trouble getting it in the sleeve. It’s all back together, functions, but the nut didn’t tighten down quite as securely as I think it should. Thanks for GREAT videos!
Mike –
Thanks for the great video – I’ve replaced 3-4 antennas and didn’t know that you could feed the leader from the top – I stalled in the motor ass’y – a real pain.
Hello Squire Zack,
The industry standard for the antenna wire lead is the color Blue. If not working you can use the Red power lead, but the antenna will go up every time you turn on the Miata. Good Luck with your Mission.

For hooking up a aftermarket stereo is there a special wire to allow the antenna to raise or would i need to wire a switch to the motor?
Thanks
Zach

I bought the part from Miata King and it arrived very promptly. Watched the video to refresh myself on the procedure. Had it repaired in less time than the video takes to watch. Thanks for the very clear repair instruction video!
Hello Sir Matt,
Yes, there are multiple replacement antennas. Search eBay. Good luck with your Mission.

Definitely in the same boat as Teknodogg! I have a 2002 LS with a power antenna that is bent. I’m leaning towards putting the fixed shorty antenna in there instead. Can that be done easily?!?!?
Hello,
Yes, That is the proper eBay item number for your 2005 Speed. Thank you for your interest.

Hi Mike,
Will 370505911652 Mazda Miata Power Antenna Mast Assembly fits 1999-2005, also work on the 2005 Mazdaseed Miata? I assume it will but want to double check before ordering it.
Hello,
The best way is to purchase a short antenna kit at your local Auto Parts store.
Mike.
The King of Miatas.
if I want to replace the power antenna mast with a short antenna would I need a special base/mounting piece? or could it be direct fit?
You saved me with this video!!! Thank you so much!
Hello,
Please watch the video again. All the tools that could be used to remove the top nut are on the towel on top of trunk in the video.

how did you remove the mounting nut ( the very first step ) You said something about using needle nose pliers but then looked like you used some other tool, i couldn’t get off the silver nut. Thanks for the help!

Hey Mike, Great vid! I was looking over your site but couldn’t find the additional parts I need to complete my 2001 Miata. In your vid you mentioned 3 things that are missing from my vehicle. 1. The sleeve that you mentioned having to cut off the old mast. 2. The special “nut”, and 3. The bushing that is formed to the fender shape.
Are they available on your site?
Thanks…
Very helpful, great moustache. What more could you ask for? Just fixed my sisters mk2 ariel. Cheers Mike
Did you ever find a place to buy a new sleeve? I have the same problem since the sleeve didn’t come with the replacement antenna. 🙁
Hello Sir Shu The Moody,
Yes, we can do it. Thanks for the warm message.
