I can’t honestly say I have any experience with either brand, though Sachs does ring a bell and Anschlers is a company i’ve never heard of. Take that for what it’s worth i suppose?

Hawksface says:

Excellent video, definitely helped me in deciding whether to try replacing the shocks myself (save myself a bit of cash!). Regarding the parts, I have some Sachs and some Anschler shocks available to me – do you (or anyone else) have comments on the Anschlers? Thanks!

GarrettsSubaru says:

Glad it helped you!

hellper198 says:

This was a very helpful. Thank you, for posting.

Peter H says:

Bad shocks can cause stability problems and braking problems so they should be replaced if your car has bad shocks.

Thanks for the info in the video.

Tom La Rocque says:

Tres bon, merci.

dereileak says:

are the springs on the mazda3 and mazda5 the same, I want to buy helper bags and I found them for the mazda5 but not the 3

619randy says:

it happen to me today … what did you do ?

thewolfstuff says:

2007 mazda3

thewolfstuff says:

Replaced rear shocks. Good for a couple months or so. Getting a clanking noise over small bumps, like cracks in the street almost. Checked linkages and everything seems tight. Bushings seem ok. Took the shock off thinking that top bolt you tighten with vice grips and wrench…seems tight. This sucks.

snutmeez says:

Yea its the same process.I just had to do this to my ’09 3 hatch today. Thanks GarrettsSubaru, this video was helpful and I did my replacements in under 30 minutes.

Andy Guice says:

While I’m pretty sure this is far too late, you can find the mount (that I think is what you’re talking about as the “top part”) on amazon (Dorman 924-412 Upper Shock Mount for Mazda 3/5).

terry eustace says:

Thanks Garrett, I was able to save over £200 By replacing the shocks myself. If you work on the mazda5 again post more video’s.

Michael Boone says:

Thanks for the video, just replaced the shocks on my Mazda 3 and this video made it easy!

Kerry Maggart says:

Very well done video. Thanks for posting it; it was very helpful.

David Jewett says:

Thanks for the video. I used it to change the rear struts on my 09 Mazdaspeed 3.

1kounter says:

Thank you for the reply, turns out it was called the rear shock mount and your video helped me install it.

GarrettsSubaru says:

On McPherson style struts/springs it’s called the tophat, honestly a bit embarrassed to say im not sure if it’s called just regular strut setups. It may also be tophat. It’s a bushing basically, so if you need to tell a guy at a part store say either tophat or bushing and they should be able to figure out what you’re saying.

Hope that helps.

1kounter says:

What is that “top part” (@ 4:18) called?
Mine just shattered on both sides so the shock absorber is now loose and if I understand correctly I can replace it with the same steps in this video.
Great video by the way 🙂

mrPLomas1 says:

Thanks for the video. Gave me a good idea of what to expect when I change out my rear Mazda 3 shocks. Thanks again.

LostFrog07 says:

Very good and informative, I used to repair all my cars using Haynes book(s). Your video instructions is very direct and clear. Great job!

Porgie Tirebiter says:

I put you over 59 likes. I think I know why that 5 has leaking struts. From your Mom driving around with that heavy tank of Nitrous Oxide in the trunk. [I did the same thing] I see at 0:52 that you wisely took it out and put it in the garage. Nice. Great job. I have to replace mine and do a brake job on my 5. I’ll post it. I will now look at your other videos and tell some friends about them. Many laughs, thanks!

Don Litzenberg says:

Thanks Garrett. Just the ticket to get the wife’s ride sorted. Back shocks weren’t actually too bad, but since I had a blown front and over 80k on them, it was probably time. I appreciate the help.

Paul Knox says:

Thanks Garrett, you saved me a lot of bucks and had fun doing it… have the best…Paul

Shannon Whelan says:

Great video, should have watched this three hours ago before I agreed to let Mazda do this for $431.00.

GarrettsSubaru says:

It’s actually my mother’s car and i believe it’s an 08. Should be the same process for all Mazda 5s from 2005 to 2010 though.

Robert Wilmoth says:

What year is your mazda? I have a 2007 Mazda 3 and I want to attempt to replace my front and rear struts soon so I can get new tires.

Marguerette Lagyak says:

I have this car too…. Just found out last night that I have a leaky shock. Since I’m poor 😉 I looked for ways to do it myself. Thanks for such a good video! This will be my guide.

nurtsurt says:

Very cool bud, very cool!! Love your work.

Josh Williams says:

I appreciate it dude, I watched your video cause i didnt know how to do it at all before. Got the parts in and changed them both in about 2 hours. Post more about Mazda 5 cause i cant find shit for changing parts on it. Thanks

Jerry Mann says:

First on the list when I Googled “how replace shocks mazda 3”. Great video, fun for instructional vid. Think I’ll try the weld nut just for kicks and camaraderie ; ] Thanks!!! Wish I had a Subaru so I could watch your vids all the time ha ha ha.!

thewolfstuff says:

Of course that lower bolt is an SOB. Been trying at it for a bit…and I’m not on the weld nut.

julian olivares says:

thanks man. this is a funny video and you are a funny guy!!!!! thanks

GarrettsSubaru says:

Should be the exact same process.

Jennifer Kirk says:

Are changing the shocks on a Mazda 3 Hatchback similar to this video??

Dan Lacroix says:

THANK YOU!!
ok I must admit I did try the weld bolt for a while..

totaldla says:

Good video. Good job.

Citylink58 says:

Well Done Garrett. Excellent video. Car actually drive better with the Gas Struts. For everyone in the UK, EuroCar Parts stock Gas shocks for the Mazda 5. Only tip is to soak the bolts with WD40 prior to removal as they can be swines to remove without. Thanks again Garrett.

GarrettsSubaru says:

That steel plate with the little bubble that kind of comes out is actually made for a jack, so it’ll be perfect to jack it up on. Also i put the jack stands on the big metal bar that goes from the left and right of the car, it’ll be able to hold it just fine. When you put the car on jackstands, kind of wiggle it around a a bit to make sure it’s not going to immediately fall. If it doesn’t it should be good!

Good luck swapping struts!

DarylS256 says:

Nice vid Garret. Parts are on order for me to do my Mazda5.
One question…where exactly did you place the pump jack to evenly lift up the rear end? I had a look underneath my car, was it the steel plate in the center? It doesn’t look strong enough to support the weight of the car. Also, where did you place the jack stands?
Thanks!

Wat Racing says:

ding…..ding…dindindindinding!!!!
Nice vid

Henry Lee says:

Thanks. I have changed it with your instruction. Work like a charm !!! Now I don’t have the bounce anymore.

Henry Lee says:

Thanks a lot. I found out Mazda 5 stock rear shocks are not durable and it leaks when you have quite a few big bump. Well, it’s a cheap car and I don’t blame that. Anyway, I will start to do that this weekend and it’s always good to have a demo b4 that. I might just change the rear rotor and pad as well.

HanzoHanief says:

Wow that easy. What a difference in ride. I didn’t even need to go under the van. Everything was reachable with the wheels removed. Thanks man great vid.

HanzoHanief says:

shocks should be here today so maybe ill get to it today.
