Seems like a load of crap. If it’s still in the factory warranty period I
would call Mazda Corporate and complain. There’s no reason that you
shouldn’t be able to use a normal car charger in the lighter port. If she’s
pulling it in an out all the time it could possibly break it from over-use
but other than that it sounds like they are feeding you a line. In any case
the part should be cheap and replacement should take less than an hour.

Hey, Just wanted tothankyou for your tutorial. I am mechanically inclined
but I just needed to see how to start once and your video helped me Big
Time in changing the bulb in the orange ring around the lighter. This car
has been horrible as far as bulbs burning out. Thanks again for your
usefull video. Joe

John Houwaart says:

thanks for the video 🙂 do you have to take the head unit off to be able to
take the a/c heating faceplate off? or is it possible with the steps you
just showed

Guyfromhe says:

I think you do, I haven’t done that in a long time but I believe the head
unit covers the top clips of the control plate. In any case the head unit
is a lot easier to remove than the ash tray panel. You just need to open
the glove box and pry the long strip along the factory LCD off, remove two
screws holding the HU on and then pop it out by pulling forward.

Guyfromhe says:

It’s in the PJB under the passenger dash board… It should either be
called accessory or lighter… I don’t remember what position it’s in but
it will be printed on the chart on the cover.

Lighter fuse in daughter’s 2006 Mazda 3 kept blowing. I got tired of
replacing blown fuses so I took it to dealer. Service rep said the lighter
receptacle had been damaged by my daughter sticking something other than
the lighter in it. I said duh, she puts her iPhone charger in there. He
said doing that breaks something in the receptacle that causes it to short
out. Would not cover under warranty because it’s designed only for lighter
use! Wanted $75 to replace so I’m replacing it myself!

Guyfrome says:

@sirjohnny1974 do you have the manual controls or the automatic climate
control? I never saw how the manual ones connect but there are probably
cables of some sort that attach to it. I was talking about the automatic
ones and even that fell apart so you will probably have an even harder time
if it’s the manual one

cobie smith says:

My climate control and cig lighter don’t light up anymore I’m told its a
short anyway to fix it myself?

John Houwaart says:

before I start with it I thought about springs flying around hahahha I
think I purchase a second hand working one and replace the whole thing
indeed. is there just an electric plug in the unit? or also a cable that
controls the left knob where you change the air direction

I was wondering how in the heck this thing came out! I thought Mazda had a

Guyfromhe says:

You can definitely pull it out and replace it… You are probably looking
at around $100 for the part used if you can find it. Probably a lot more
new. Unless your are super handy with small fiddly things you probably
can’t fix it, I had a spare one I was trying to look inside of and once I
took the screws out the whole thing popped apart and broke so make sure you
can live without it for a while if you can’t get it back together.

Just wanted to say THANKS!!! I have a problem with my cigarette lighter
blowing fuses and wanted to check the wiring. All was OK but by removing
the whole thing I discovered a broken plastic tab inside the recepticle
that fell out when I tipped it upside down. Don’t know if that caused the
problem but I sure appreciate this video. Thanks again

Thank you very much, it is very helpful

I planned to replace the fan speed switch in my 2006 Mazda 3 manual A/C
climate control. It seemed to me that your way of removal of ash tray may
enable me to pull the manual A/C climate control, but I am worried about if
I unscrew the screws of the manual A/C climate control unit and pull it
out, will that step pull air intake wire, air mix wire and airflow mode
wire and destroy the wires If I pull the climate control unit out slightly
and slowly? Are there any slackness on the wires?

this helped me so much!! lets just say an item of significant importance
slipped through a crack and i thought id never be able to get it unless an
auto technician basically took my car apart. after seeing this video, i ran
out to my mazda and just popped the thing right off and got what i needed!
saved me so much time and hassle…never thought it wud have been soooo
easy!

Thanks, this was exactly what I was looking for to fix the gf’s cig.
adaptor panel

Frank says:

Wow thanks a lot man! Really helpful!

Guyfromhe says:

Glad it was helpful

John Houwaart says:

thanks a lot for your fast reply. seems my a/c button is stuck somehow
(maybe a spring broke) so see if it’s fixable or maybe get a whole new
control board

Guyfromhe says:

No problem. I hope you get your problem fixed.. The plastic piece wasn’t
blowing fuses but it may have been some sort of spacer to stop something
from shorting out which may have been.

Yasser Mohammed says:

Where can i find the cigarette lighter? if it is inside the interior fuse
box then where can i find this box? and thanx
