you couldve cleaned the leafs and dabree after installing everything lol
thats just me tho
And they make those splines so small on purpose so they break on ya…
I’ve never had a wiper motor strong enough to destroy something when the
wipers were frozen to the windshield. But I also only tried it for a split
second or so, turning the wipers off immediately after I noticed the wipers
don’t move.
don’t push down on the wiper arm pivot you could have easily broke the
glass, damaged the arm, or damaged the hood cowling. Use a wiper arm removal
tool. its like 15 bucks at the auto parts store.
You can sometimes find those plastic things in the Help isle at the auto
parts store… sometimes they’ll even fit your car. The biggest and most
annoying wiper problem I’ve had is with my old Ford Crown Vic. The wipers
would either park vertical or on a random place on the windshield. I
rebuilt the motor, replaced the motor, swapped the switch, and even took
the switch apart and cleaned the contacts to no avail. Eventually I traded
it in for a Jeep.
Can you share how much replacement parts you use in repair videos cost? I
think that really helps viewers realize the expense of the repairs.
De ice spray on windshield might prevent this
A 3D printer would be great for this type of repair. They’re at the point
where they are almost affordable for most and one of those gears would cost
a few cents to print.
Too bad I’m not one of those people. Damn.
Had to replace the wiper motor on my mom’s ’94 Saturn once. Had to take
the upper part of the dash out to remove the bolts, and even getting to
them from there was a challenge. That’s not to mention getting the motor
out of the tight pocket it sits in up above the firewall under the hood.
Other than that, it’s been a nice reliable car, barely had to do any work
to it its entire life.
Pretty disappointed to find plastic gears in there like some child’s toy.
Especially on something important, like being able to see.
Hey Eric, I see a new type of gloves. Nice! :)
Dorman makes many universal wiper linkage kits that may work with your
vehicle.
I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 and wipers stopped wiping recently. It turned out
to be one of those plastic bushing connectors between the linkage bars that
broke. My local parts store caried this kit:
http://www.dormanproducts.com/itemdetail.aspx?ProductID=17896&SEName=49447
(Also available on Amazon, Ebay etc..)
I was able to fix it easily using one of these universal bushings.
Pro Tip: Try boiling the bushing first to make it more plyable and easier
to insert into place. If your able to remove the bar in question, boiling
it may help removing the old bushing as well.
Would it have been cheaper or the same price if the owner decided to get a
used wiper motor and arm assembly instead of a reconditioned one?
Can u please make a video on how to change the windshield wiper switch
that’s inside the car I have replaced the motor the relay n I honestly
don’t know what else is wrong with them if it’s not the switch. Anyone else
got any ideas please help me out. BTW I’m not a pro just a 20 year old
using youtube to fix my car lol
“Silicone spray is your friend when installing rubber stuff” -9:35 that’s
what she said
Did the tooth fairy pay a visit to this car Eric? I hope you gave the teeth
to the owner so they can put em under their pillow 😉 LOL
What brand of ratchets was that guy using in the Pixies-Bag Boy vid?
mh. Ford Puma’s wipers are perfect for scraping ice from my windshield
and/or freeing it from snow :D
I really wish my wipers were that easy to get off last year lmao… Had to
make a tool to remove them they were pressed on and nothing but plastic
around to pry on.
Hello +EricTheCarGuy can you give me any pointers on a problem I’m having
with the wipers on my 97 Toyota Glanza turbo.. I tried to do a shallow
stream crossing that was unavoidable and the engine bay got very wet, the
car stalled out and wouldnt start again for a good hour. Everything was
fine after this but now the wipers come on intermittently when i’m driving
(without the wiper switch being turned on). Sometimes they stay on until i
stop the car and sometimes they turn off after a minute or so. Any ideas??
I am now going to name that car “Stitch” from lilo and stitch (stitch is
experiment 626 :3 )
Great timing on this. My wife’s driver wiper just went limp. This will help
me navigate the repair with a little more confidence.
I like your style in this video. You have the same attitude like you had in
your earlier videos. Your direct and you get to the point with what you
doing. Very nice video.
Would anyone know why my wipers move down before going up when i turn them
on? it causes me not to be able to position them to the lowest possible
point before tightening the nut because they want to hit the cowl when they
come on. and this also means the wipers obstruct the view when in the off
position.
I guess one exception to the universal wiper mechanism constructions are
those Mercedes that have those over complicated single wipers that extend
and contract. I think some other luxury cars have this same mechanism but
only on the passenger wiper.
I don’t know what the problem is, but I didn’t get this video in my sub box
today. Or the windshield washer repair video. Maybe I wasn’t the only one?
I once had a 99 Ford Taurus that I made the mistake by turning the wipers
onon an extremely cold morning, the wipers ended up being frozen to the
windshield and the linkage(transmission) snapped. It was a hard job to
repair but being out in the freezing cold sure does suck. Sometimes things
dont work well with gloves on.
if not lubricated axis – the water in them freezes and the motor breaks
down again. U not need save for lubrication.
I never use my wiper (93 mercedes has 1 windshield one) unless i either
clear it from snow or loosen it from ice, i suspect however that the motor
might be worn, sometimes it moves slower and other times at normal speed,
sometimes it happends during the return wipe
I’ve had a situation that when i tried to turn on my wipers, they were
frozen to the glass and i stopped in the middle of the street, ignition off
and smacked them loose :D
I’ve heard leaving the wipers up overnight is not a great idea since it
stretches the springs that hold them down and therefore makes the wipers
less effective.
Love your repair videos, Eric, even when they address problems I’m not
currently experiencing. I have had wiper problems in the past, though, and
know they’re not usually too hard to fix. Bravo!
When I turn on the wipers when they are frozen to the windshield my fuse
will blow. I learned that the hard way
How timely, I’ll be doing this next week!
Have an 03 Accord LX. Wipers slam down when there in operation. Any clues
on how to fix that?
Eric! Can you do a video on a rear wiper assembly? I have to fix the one
on my moms trailblazer lol
Make sure you disconnect the wires before you stick your hand inside the
transmission. Ouch!
I would clean the area off the leafs first. And I wouldn’t run the wipers
on a dry windshield. But well, that’s me I guess.
Fantastic video!
Reminds me of my speedo gears, one tooth missing, and that’s the last km it
counted for a while.
Sir Eric, I want to see a video. How to overhaul the engine of VW beetle
2000-2001 yr model
I miss the machine guns
plastic gears! probably a ford part.
Smashing job :D
I wonder who he got into a fight with to have lost all those teeth.
