MANY MANY THANKS to you, and others, who helped me through this problem.

Symptoms were stalling at tickover or when breaking with no throttle –
and mostly on cold mornings (though not always):

Mazda wanted over £2k (more than the car is valued ); my local independent
garage wanted £1k for a reconditioned pump; HOWEVER … a specialist diesel
company in essex, who advertise on the web, soon diagnosed and changed the
SCV for circa £200. PROBLEM SOLVED !!!

Whilst not DIY as per this video, it certainly spurred me on to reject
earlier estimates – and I got a result none the less – . More power to you
and the internet . all the best :-)

Thanks for taking the time to do this Alan. Great vid! About to go into the
cold winter’s day and have a go. See you in 10 😉

Buff Bagwell says:

nice one fella, this issue was driving us mad until a friend of mine said
it might be the SCV causing the problem. using this video the part was
installed in less than 30 minutes and car running fine now. thanks.

Nice video. It’s 750 RPM though which is a normal base idle. On my car or
perhaps just difference in US terminology we call that a fuel pressure
regulator. Classic symptom is when you have to keep your foot on the gas or
it will stall. If that doesn’t fix your issue then get a fuel pressure test
done, it could be a failing pump , or even low battery voltage. If the
battery gets low enough it will affect the fuel pressure too. Good helpful
video, keep making em mate. I enjoyed it. 🙂

Thanks for the question. Not familiar with your car I’m afraid.Doesn’t
sound like a European model. If you are running a petrol (gas) car, then
check the spark plugs are clean and gapped correctly. Check you have good
fuel quality, and no leaks. If you have any engine management lights on the
car, have the codes read. Not starting at all seems to be a different
issue. Try and see if there is a forum on the internet for your car. Sorry
can’t help more.

Alan, first of all thank you for your magnificent video. Mazda service
advised me to change the injection pump and injectors. Today with my little
boy six years as an assistant scv valve have changed and the car has
returned to work fine without stopping. thank you very much

Hi there, thanks a lot for taking the time to post this very useful video.
The screw at the back was tricky to access, but job done. Thanks again.

Hi Alan, First of all thanks for the video is really good and all you
manage to explain with amazing details. I have a 6SW 136BHP and it started
to stall, a few weeks ago it decided to take more and more time to go back
on, until one night while I was trying to leave to go home it took me ages
to get it started, are this symptoms familiar to you? It also stalls in the
moment that you release the gas, and it turn really difficult to drive it
now I already ordered the part would let you know.Thx!

Alan Mann says:

It’s a 5 speed 2006 model 105,000 miles. The problem started with a slight
‘dip’ in tickover after driving 15 miles or so, when I stopped at lights or
a juction. Over the course of 6-8 months it got progressivly worse, until
one day it just stalled. It started again perfectly well, but over the next
few weeks the stalling became more frequent and so decided to replace. The
issue never effected MPG, still getting 53-55mpg on mixed motorway and town
driving. Hope that helps.
