Michael Luscher says:

Your half way there on diagnostics
There’s an under hood diagnostic connector that’s a 17 pin Mazda “CAN” ish
system. Rings true for most Mazda/FoMoCo Hybrid era vehicles. Get Snap On
on the phone and get the adapter for the Verus, while your there, Get the
14 pin Consult plug for semi OBD2 Nissan products(’92-’04~. Can’t do
ABS/SRS or misfire monitors w/o it

Dan'sMeTube says:

Would swapping coils (move existing coils) be a good test for the computer
output driver?

Toyota Tech says:

Nice video. Should have titled it ‘Driving with Danner’!!
When you said your calling boots and plugs but you were not happy I tapped
to see how long was left and new you’d do more testing! Very funny! Your
right we do know you well, your a fine technician.

Jeffrey Wilson says:

Hey Paul, great video.. pain in the butt when you get coil issues on those
engines with the buried back 3. When I run into that situation, where 1 or
2 of my front coils are confirmed bad, I don’t think its out of line to
sell the back 3 coil and plugs. Then moved the back 3 original coils to the
front. If the back 3 originals were ok, your good to go until they fail.
When they fail, at least they are now up front! Love the field trips, keep
em coming man!

ScannerDanner says:

this one was not fun to edit! hope you like it.

jnarez1 says:

Can u tell if u have a misfire by looking at fuel trims

mike withers says:

I would highly recommend all coils on this car. Driving around with
misfires even slight can destroy the cats. see it all the time. Even on
my wifes car. She drove the car for a while with a misfire and cooked the
cat.

Kerry Kozma says:

I’m missing something simple here. If you get free time could you look at
the diagram of a 2010 cadillac cts and see why I would have 12v on both
wires for license plate lights. Every other light works that shares the
ground and the dude replaced the bulbs and sockets already before I got it.
I know you get paid to do these things but it would be appreciated

PhattyMo says:

I’d say put 3 new coils, plugs, boots, etc. in the back bank -just because.
Then move the old ‘good’ ones from the rear bank,to the front bank,to
replace the 2 bad ones…if/when the front ones die again,at least they’re
easier to get to.

Nelson Olivares says:

Hi. I have the same problem with my mazda mpv 2003. How did you solve it?

Marek Sysoł says:

More “Drive – cam” movies and talks 🙂 with a bit of repair on the side.
Enjoyed it heavily.

Greats from Poland

Steve Rob says:

I liked it. Thanks Paul

jimmy neutron says:

i like the prepared condition videos better but field work gives nice
thought process..after watching your switches section 2 on the premium
channel video the scope voltage on the coil control would have been nice or
the swap known good to bad location. your premium channel is absolutely a
must have tool for the tool box.switch testing is amazing and bypass
testing is unbelievable and presented perfectly. keep up the great work.

KingBain says:

so since this issue only starts once the engine heats up, is this a heat
soak issue with the coil ?

Lynx Star Automotive says:

Damn that snow went fast!

Discretesignals says:

“2004 Mazda, Mazda something.” I do that all the time. Go out to the
drive to pull the vehicle in the bay and don’t know what the heck it is
half the time. I guess that is what happens when your in this field too
long…LOL

Nikolai Pozdniakov says:

Great video. Is it bad to let car idle for that long with an ignition
misfire? Would you shut it off quicker if you were not shooting video?

XxBlksnshnxX says:

Good video. Small suggestion. It would be great if you could put a link
in the description to some of the tools you use. Such as your orange
handled magic wand.

GammaCruxis says:

You know you love us – else you wouldn’t do it. Thanks for all you do
Paul! 🙂 Love to see how you think when it comes to diagnosis.

cbobcbob100 says:

great job as always….love the real world problems….I believe one of
your best….still saving up for your book….bob

motoYam82 says:

Amazing how smooth that V6 sounds on video even with two dead cylinders! I
still drive a Mazda MPV, but the original version from 1989-made in Japan.
It’s on its third distributor (ignitors burn up every 100k), but still
running on the original ignition coil. Too bad Ford had to use their own
electrics on this van haha

Zachary Geoffroy says:

Hey man, what was the “wise probe” you used to get the ignition pattern?
I’m really interested in getting one. Also if you don’t mine my asking,
What model is your verus? Does it run 600mhz or 1.6ghz? Be a great help as
i’m in the market. Thanks!

dblr616 says:

Before i watch my guesses are goning to be air tube cracked and or or
typical ford bad coil/boot misfire…

89Laredo says:

Low power… I drive an 89 cherokee with 33s/3.55s and an 85 ford with a
6.9, I know “Low power”. lol

318ishonk says:

Nice one mate, these field sessions are really interesting.

I totally trust your experience of the components in this car and I bet
your diagnosis was right. However, I also had the case (old BMW 4 cyl) that
one coil and the corresponding IGBT in the ECU was faulty.

Mike Ortiz says:

Thanks for your thought process..
Best mode 10 a month ever..

Michael Galvin says:

You made me laugh with your description of yourself with the camera looking
at the reflection in the window. Thanks Paul

Alex F says:

Hey Paul, that verus scanner is running windows on it. You can use a screen
capture software like Camstudio to record all screen activity to a video
rather than holding that camera with all that glare.
