Getting my EGR Valve replaced today on a 2001 Mazda MPV plus spark
plugs, wires & gaskets.Mechanic is charging $650,claims its an all day
job.Found the part online for $168..What do u think the estimate charge for
this job would be?
is this the same for a 00 mazda mpv lx
how many bolts is needed to remove to take out the egr valve
@nalg31 Yup! It’s been working very nicely.
what tool did you use to get that back bolt off and what size?
I totally agree I am in the process of taking the valve off my car but that
second bolt in the back is so difficult to get to.
The plastic housing on top of the EGR is the position sensor. It lets the
ECU know how much vacuum is provided to the EGR diaphragm and how far the
valve is open so that the ECU can calculate how much EGR gas is flowing. If
there is carbon buildup, torn diaphragm, or faulty sensor it will set an
EGR low flow code such as a P0401. Good video, very helpful to Protege
owners.
The Canadian EGR valve kit comes with a throttle body gasket… what’s that
for? None of the instructions that I’ve seen seem to involve removing
anything but the EGR valve.
Some find it easier to remove the whole thing instead of just the egr, it’s
a pain to get a ratchet under there to get at the two bolts. If you leave
the throttle body on, you save yourself lots of pain, the throttle boody
gasket is a bitch to get off once it’s caked on.
@dannysob1974 There are two bolts attached to the bottom of the EGR valve
itself, if that is what you are asking
I’m planning to buy a used 2001 Protege. The sellers says the EGR valve
needs to be replaced. What symptoms will I notice if I run the car with a
faulty valve and is it important to replace it if I do purchase the vehicle?
You’ve probably already finished by now, but just wanted to say I spent a
good hour trying to get that stupid bolt off. For anyone else trying, I
succeeded by taking off the throttle body, then moving the shift cable
aside and getting a short 12mm socket on it.
I think it’s the same for every bolt, but it’s been a few years so I might
be wrong
Keep going at it, a few bloody knuckles later you’ll have your EGR valve
out..
hi your link to buy isn’t working anymore do you know another link where we
can buy it
