07 Mazda 3 Trunk Seal Repair

07 Mazda 3 Trunk Seal Repair

http://www.mikeschmeee.com

Over the Winter season, I have made several repairs to this 2007 Mazda3 that had water leaking into the trunk and taillights. This video, created on a surprisingly warm and sunny day in early March 2022, showcases the last (hopefully) repair regarding the aforementioned leak. Roughly $80 CAD at the parts department of a local Mazda dealership was spent for Part# BN8V-56-951C; trunk seal. The item already comes with a special silicone or glue-like material inside of the grooves, so it’s a very simple install. Just pull the old seal off, clean up the residue off of the vehicle, and press in the new seal. There is a small indentation on the seal that should be aligned with the trunk latch when installing the seal.
If viewers of this video run into an issue where the seal is slightly too long, it should be safe – but don’t hold me accountable – to cut a little piece off of the seal, and align the remainder so it’s tight, with no gaps. Then use some RVT silicone that can adhere to rubber for extra support. One should not encounter this problem though. For reference, watch a few videos about seals on automobiles in general, or on some older American classic cars. The seals are usually made and sold to be cut by the installer, and reconnected so that there are no gaps in between the area that was cut.

Is there any cure time after it's installed? I just put mine on and I want to test it out, but not sure if I should wait a bit or not…
