Removing the door glass and repairing the glass seals on the Lotus Elan M100

In which we remove the door glass and repair the inner and outer door glass seals on the Lotus Elan M100. We show how to get the glass out without severing your fingers; fit and adjust the sliders so the window opens smoothly without rattling; put it back in and adjust it so it doesn’t leak; and remove and repair the inner and outer door glass seals.

In this video we have removed the inner door cards first. If you need to know how to do that, see the video in this series on removing the door cards and fixing a sticky door handle.

Hi, great videos and all of them have helped me rebuild my Elan -thank you! Without the video's it would have stayed in the garage forever. 3 years of fun and games and it has finally beaten me on one thing. The door electric lock on the drivers door keeps sticking on so the door won't open then finally let's go when it feels like it. Any ideas or ever had the central door locks off? It is fine just so long as I don't Lock the doors ! I may have knocked something when refitting the glass but I can't see anything. Cheers Alex

So many memories of rebuilding mine made me laugh when you said be careful when moving the glass. I looked at the scar right through my knuckle when the butterfly broke and dropped the glass on my finger lol

pure genius

mark bayles says:

alternative to long nose pliers to hold the upstop bobbin nuts is to super glue a thin piece of plastic I used a bit of CD case to the back of the glass against the flat of the bobbin nut, then scrape the glue off when you have the glass out.
