Thanks, Scotty, I just ordered this memory saver through your link.

Scotty saves me again!

The Internet says:

Honestly how dumb can that design be? Imagine if you lost everything whenever you changed a battery or ran outta juice in anything else. This sort of nonsense is why I prefer cars that are actually cars and not a stepping stone to self-driving nonsense.

Rev up your memories!!!

Nathan Reilly says:

I hated it. Sorry Scotty Kilmer.

Bo McGillacutty says:

GREAT advice as per usual Scotty.

TSC TSC says:

Scotty, this is somewhat different request but I've watched your other videos and this will fit right in with the computers talking to each other on the vehicles. Now I have a '93 Chrysler Concorde, bought new and know it better than past girlfriends, with a 3.3v6 and still runs fine with a soft 152,000 miles put on it. I had trouble this last yr with it randomly shutting off while driving and not restarting. Changed fuel pump (sometimes the fuel pump was putting out way too low pressure but think it was related to my diagnosis later on), fuel filter, mechanics checked wiring. Would run fine for a while then just quit on an easy, smooth road or soft bump even. The dealership was at a lost since this '93 was before a lot of codes; they didn't have equipment anymore to interpret what codes they were getting and the mechanics were looking at modules under the hood, big ticket items. Bottom line, it turned out to be the ignition switch. It would break contact and since the fuel pump is electrical, it would quit pumping gas because my fuel rail would not have any gas in it when i checked. I've learned a lot about cars from you videos and then go on the internet to really dig deeper. Mine is the old school type switch with plain key on the steering column. I pretty much diagnosed it because I could wiggle the key and once in a while get the engine to shut down when it was running, sitting in my garage of course. Could you explain how the ignition switch might be the 'traffic cop' that directs the routing of electrical power to the circuits/modules, once the power from the batter is introduced to the switch and how an interruption at the switch can play havoc. I think nothing gets going until the ignition switch starts the whole process and plays a more important role than thought with no credit. I'm sure newer vehicles still depend on the ignition switch to make contact and to direct the electrical power to start the whole process of engine starting and keeping it running. Can the ignition switch create half power and mess with the electronics on down the line? Just a thought a for good segment since the electronics talk to each other. Thanks. Northeast Ohio, USA. PS., Keep up the great videos.

Casey Myhro says:

I wish I saw this video when I replaced my battery months ago. After I replaced the battery on my 2008 Lexus ES350, my car would start, then immediately die, if I didn't keep my foot on the gas pedal. The computer eventually reprogrammed itself a day later, but it was frustrating.

Stupid new junk.

Alfonso Dag says:

It is hard to understand why the manufacturers don't use non-volatile memory for crucial information backup. None of the important memory parameters should be power dependent, that's just poor electronic design.

So could I hook jumper cables up to my battery clamps then run the other side of the cables to another car that has a good battery in it? Then remove the clamps from my battery and replace it while the jumper cables are still connected?
