Nice work! Have you listed what tools you used? I have a small collection
of Park Tools but not sure which ones you used for the video. Mainly
looking at that cable cutter/crimper. Can you recommend an online retailer
as to where I can get this tools and crimping caps?

Giuseppe Greco says:

An extemporaneous question: I’d like to replace the chain of my 80’s road
bike with a colored chain, like fixed bike chain: it is possible?

LIKEABOSSBF3 says:

Ok I just wrapped my bars today and I don’t have Any wires under so do I
still have to unwrap it?

fozzy279 says:

Great Video – I thought my old 80’s bike was only any use for a static
trainer! Would the new 105 10 / 11 speed groupsets be suitable for this
type of conversion?

Jeanean Martin says:

Thanks I tried the spacer( a 3/8 washer) and it worked like magic! I am
just about done, only waiting for one part, the 7 speed SIS derailleur. Do
I need to make the chain a little longer?

carl martin says:

hello I was moving along fine with a project like yours until I ran into a
problem with the freewheel. The 7 speed freewheel I purchased is way to
wide. The spacing especially for the smallest cog is actually wider than
the 6 speed freewheel spacing. It is not even close. Would you please
recommend a freewheel for me please?

Giuseppe Greco says:

Excuse me, I believe that the brifter levers that You have used to replace
the brake and the down tube shifter levers is not a common brifter levers;
or not? They have a specific name?

howard roark says:

How much would it cost me to have a bike shop do the opposite of this?

Ross McArthur says:

Did this some years ago, purely ‘seat-of-the-pants’ assembly. 🙂 Nice to
know I did the same, from basic commonsense. “I’m going to go ahead . .
/Go ahead and . . ” 🙂 Ya know, if you left it out you’d only need to
speak half as long.

kopiberkrim says:

Hey great video! Will this work on any vintage 10 speed?

Sheri Diaz says:

that is exactly what I need to do to my older road bike. Where do I start?
Any shop that I can call/email and order all the supplies and parts I need
for this job? Thank you in advance.

Samuel Wallick says:

How much did it cost

Raul Cortez says:

You made that look way too easy! How much would a job like that cost if you
had a shop do it?

Giuseppe Greco says:

Excuse me, what is the excat name of that things taht replace the down tube
shifter levers? Thank You.
P.s.
Your video is amazing!

Dave Glass says:

that is NOT a straight edge ! it is a level

Matt Spurlock says:

getting ready to do this on a late 80’s Cannondale. The bike is in
fantastic shape overall. It is currently a 6-speed. Will see if I can fit a
wheel with 8-speed on it. If that goes OK, I’m looking at Shimano Claris
shifters. Do you foresee any issues here? Also- I see some Shimano 105
derailleur on ebay that indicate they are for 6, 7, or 8 speed. Your video
says the derailleur should be changed. Anyway for me to confirm on my
derailleur before I buy a new one? Thanks from a newbie!

Bryan Gabiga says:

Is it possible to use 8speed 1055 sti shifters on a 7 speed freewheel?

Lefteris Trikkkas says:

Arne Admiraal says:

I just upgraded my trek 5500 to sti shifters today, your video was of a lot
of help.
thanks a lot.

SuperChelonia says:

Excuse me whats the name of the derailleur you purchased?

scot7169 says:

hi do you have to replace the rear derailleur?

Luca Leresche says:

quite a quick noob question, I am about to get a new used bike, but there
is a Stem shifting system and by safety I should really really change it.
Would a conversion like yours be actually possible and not so expensive ?,
the cables are passing more trough the top bar and go all way to the rear
Thanks for any answer

athensoh says:

Thanks for the video, it’s very informative. I have a Specialized Sirrus
from around 1991-1992 with a Santour Blaze 2×7 speed system (like on the
bike from your video). I was looking at Shimano ST-A070 shifters to do the
conversion, but you mentioned in the video that the Santour rear derailleur
will have to be replaced as well. Maybe it’s a stupid question, but why is
that? Pulling cables seems to be the same action for any system?

I won’t have to replace the front derailleur, will I? Also, will it be
preferable to replace the freewheel too or I can use the old one? Thanks
for your help?

Simón Torres says:

Isn’t it better to open the chain?

Donnie Gunz says:

I have an 90’s model Bianchi Trofeo that i want to put brifters on. My
local shop said that i would need new brakes also. I have the same style
brakes that you have. Do you think i should change the brakes also.

Martin Cameron says:

Very comprehensive and clearly explained. Thank you very much.

ycl2103 says:

very helpful, thanks!

colin biggs says:

Impressive

Gregory Forshey says:

Awesome! I am restoring a 1970’s Peugeot U08 right now and would love to
convert from downtubes to brifters. Would this work on this type of bike? I
have newer extended Shimano brake calipers to replace the Mafacs and also I
would change to a 700c wheelset. Do you envision any compatibility issues
with the frame etc? Also right now it has a 6 speed freewheel. Would I have
to spread the downtubes to fit an 8 speed freewheel or could I keep a 6
spee? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

David Lara says:

How do I know if my rear derailleur will work with Shimano ST-A070 Road
Shifters 2 x 7-Speed?

Ian Hayes says:

Really helpful video, thanks.
