lopping11 says:

hello there I’m growing a few lotus plants and i was worried because when the first leaves that come up are a greenish purple color and and not completely green should i worry?

Gail Gates says:

I’ve had similar experiences. I do have seeds now if you would like to get some?

Gail Gates says:

Water Lotus can be wintered over indoors by taking it out of the pond and placing in a black trash bag, and stored in a cool place that is safe from freezing weather.

Gail Gates says:

Hi Lopping – How is your lotus doing? If you planted a month ago it was probably too cold to get started.

Gail Gates says:

I do have water lotus seeds. Contact me directly and I can ship some out to you. I can also score (file) them before I send them out so they are ready to pop in the water. My contact and phone is on my website. Thanks!

Kay Winchester says:

Hi! I have only two water lotus seeds, a friend give them to me and they are growing well. Anyway, I was wondering if you can send me some more water lotus seeds please, I’d love to have a pond.

Alvin Nguyen says:

hi there, I love lotus, but was not successful at growing them from seeds purchased from Thailand. Can I have some america seeds to grow? it will be successful if it’s from native america species.

nitemare55 says:

Thank you for responding. I even opened them in half and they all had good growing baby green leafs in the center of the pods as well : /

Gail Gates says:

If your lotus seeds are floating after scoring the outer surface, that means they are duds and will not grow. The best seeds to buy are from the U.S. I haven’t had much luck with seeds from Asia.

nitemare55 says:

Hi I am starting to grow 7 pods and they are all floating to the top. In the demonstrations that I have seen they have all sunken to the bottom of the glass vase. I also filed the pointed end down as well. Can you please help me out.

Gail Gates says:

Hi Donna – For your area you would want to pot your lotus and then bag it after it goes dormant. Place it in cool storage where it will not freeze and then put it out again in the springtime… with fresh aquatic fertilizer of course!

Donna Kidd says:

Hi, really enjoyed your video. What do you do with it in the winter in KY. Do you bring it in the garage, or can you leave them out. Any other info would help. would also like some of the lotus seed you talked about.

Levent Veziroglu says:

Thats the way I like..

Lois Laney says:

I forgot all about my water lotus seeds I got from you. I am going to start them right now. I will have to find out how to over winter them though. It gets pretty cold here in winter.

funGODfun says:

Hey, it’s 6 months later now. Unfortunately, all plants died after they had developed 4 leaves. This year, I purchased a lotus tuber and I started 2 seeds. The tuber is in the pond now, and instead of keeping the other lotusses inside, I transplanted them to a sunny position outdoors. I hope they’ll grow big this time 🙂
What should I do in the winter? I’ll transport the tuber to the bottom of the pond where it won’t freeze, but I don’t know how to keep the new lotusses safe…
