Tackling a few fuel-related jobs on my 1983 Lotus Esprit S3 including investigating a strong smell of fuel and checking out the insides of a fuel pressure regulator.

A strong smell of petrol is never a great thing and needed investigating!
I wasn’t clear from the video: did the new seal around the fuel level sender remedy your fuel smell or was it something else?
Thanks for making these videos. It’s very helpful for other owners (I have a US 1987 Esprit Turbo HCi).
Nice video, Stu! Makes a change watching someone wrestle with an Esprit rather than a 928 (or working on one myself!).

Been tinkering with my esprit today, so great to see another video, I have had the same fuel pump that you fitted with the electronic instead of points for many years and they are great no more hitting it like the points version when they are left for a while as many SU pumps need, I have mounted a small in line pressure gauge just before the carburettors which I would recommend, when you hear the pump prime and then stop as it should you can see the pressure only a few psi which is perfect, also you should hopefully have an in line electric solenoid fuel cutoff bolted to the right hand side of the chassis under the air filter box which is a must to potentially stopping fuel siphoning in to the engine apparently if parked not flat, if that stops working (mine did once many years ago due to rust on the connection) you can't normally tell, however with the in line pressure gauge you can tell as the pressure would be zero and the pump wouldn't be on as the solenoid would stop fuel flowing, so I wouldn't fit that aftermarket regulator as you have the low pressure pump fitted and now don't require the regulator. Cheers Gary
Nice to see you back on the Esprit! Good work 🙂
