Another welding repair project today. This time on the log splitter. The splitter is light duty and my heavy use broke the wedge off and bent the top plate. So we cut the top plate off and prepare everything to get welded back on. The welding goes as well as I could expect and looks pretty good at the end. A test on a big, gnarly log shows that my repair is successful!

Remembered the glasses, just not the correct location. At least the hat was safe.
With 7018 once you get the arc going you can put the rod on the metal at a slight forward angle and it will burn along by itself. Just rock the stinger side to side and the slag should pop off when the weld cools a bit.
Good repair job. I've never welded, but it seems a handy thing to pick up with all the equipment repairs that come up
