WHY IT COST $1500 TO REPLACE WATER PUMP ON FORD LINCOLN MAZDA 3.5 3.7 ENGINE EDGE, FLEX, TAURUS, MKX
Why does it cost so much to replace the water pump on my Ford, Lincoln, Mazda Engine? If you are wondering why some shops charge around $1500 to replace water pump if you have a 3.5 V6 or 3.7 V6 engine that has been used in Ford Edge, Ford Flex, Ford Taurus, Ford Fusion, Ford Explorer, Lincoln MKZ MKX MKT MKS, and Mazda CX-9 and 6S this video will show you why. The water pump is timing chain driven, this means that you have to remove the timing chain to replace the water pump. This is where most of the labor will accumulate and the reason why it is so expensive to replace your water pump. Also, if the water pump is about to be replaced it is recommended to replace the timing chain, tensioners, and guides as well. Some bolts cannot be reused and have to be replaced as well when you put the engine together.

No, it's an engine replacement, the pump goes bad you get water into the oil. How many water pumps have to go bad before a recall.
Will see a lot of these cars up for sale for something that was ONCE EXTERNALLY and could be replaced…now is INSIDE the engine…stuPID.

Good info, Thanks! The instructions for the water pump gasket are calling for it to be lubed with Silicone grease. I’ve never heard of doing this. Anyone familiar with lubing water pump gaskets this way?

A 2009 MKZ that I recently got rid of, was showing intermittent signs that the water pump was going to seize at any moment. Putting a water pump (known to fail in the 3.5’s) inside the engine is stupid. To say the least.
Yep… Another piece of sht ford! Every ford I have owned has ended up junk that costs me more in parts and repairs than what I paid for it. Everybody who had a hand in that design , should get the shit beat out of them. My best friend bought a Ford edge with 47K on it and 4 months later the engine blew up ,cause that water pump, it was 3400 bucks for a replacement engine.

Seen a lady today selling a 2012 Ford Edge on marketplace. She wants $2000 and said they just changed the water pump and now it won't start .. She said did this and now it won't start, don't ask me what's wrong or why it won't start lol .. they done screwed it up and want to put it off on someone else.. I have 08 Ford Focus and changed out the heater core . Hellish nightmare .. they design these hoping we'll take them to the dealer .. the motor mounts on a focus lol , you'll need to replace every year..

So in essence every time you need to change your water pump it's a timing chain job and an intake job too. Nice Ford real nice. I don't own these cars but I feel sorry for anybody that ends up with this problem. Many car manufuctures motto should be :Designed and engineered to legally rob the customer blind."
Imagine if you did all only to find out the water pump was defective or shitty and only lasted 2 months. You would just about kill yourself and pull all your hair out. That is ridiculous and should be illegal but it's not because nobody cares about the little guy or gal.
