FORD, we know how to make things complicated. We are passionate about our
products and don’t want our customers any less frustrated than necessary.
We have no idea what we are doing, BUT WE ARE DOING IT, YAY!

I hate Ford with a passion. Worst looking engine compartments IN AVERAGE in
history. Just garbage. Thank you for the video ;)

bryan1282 says:

I took out all my plugs without breaking them to. So I’m better then all
you guys

4UIncognito says:

This is the first time I seen a spark plug like this . I had no idea wtf. I
forced the first one out with a 14mm socket. Then saw that the plug I took
out was way diferent from the ones they gave me at autozone… still didnt
brake any. thanks for the video

blackericdenice says:

Guess the person who put the plugs n the 98 Expedition, I worked on
Thursday, was smart. He only tighten them lightly and they came out easy
without soaking. I want to shoot people who torque spark plugs.

Jesse Pinkman ???

GM-NTMR G says:

Just hit them with a impact!

Sam Williams says:

Never had a problem changing plugs blow out the hole with air gun first to
get dirt out that saves the motor

Greg S says:

Perform an induction service(like from bg)and remove plugs while engine is
hot. Only way that works every time.

David Foulkrod says:

I followed the advice of another video on here the suggests running some
injection cleaner through a couple tanks of fuel ahead of time. You then
heat up the vehicle and take the plugs out with an impact. Normally I
wouldn’t change plugs in a hot engine with aluminum heads but it definitely
works, all eight replaced with no broken plugs. Did one side successfully
on Saturday then the other on Sunday without soaking anything.

stoeger40 says:

The 5.4 Triton is a turd! Ford let down a lot of customers by not
addressing the spark plug issues. Chevrolets 6.0 Vortec spanks the Triton
hands down in the gasoline engine category!

Rýán Túçk says:

oh yes, let us set the manual focus to infinity and rack in the back focus,
then turn on the digital zoom and stabilizer. Get a good shot of that inner
fender behind the plug.

Jay Elkins says:

I did the tune up and all plugs came out easy except one. And the threaded
sleeve came 9ff and left the rest of the plug. I didnt break just came
apart. I figure i am gonna have to break it to get it out. Believe it or
not i am driving it daiily with the plug still n. I surely thoight it wood
have blown out when i started it. I even pull a trailer suggestions

TheBigmoneyrich says:

Great video man! Question.. Do u have any good tips for removing the rear
spark plugs on an f150, as far as things that are in the way of you
accessing the plugs?

Victor Popov says:

What Size was the wrench you used?

JLUDE01 says:

I wish I had researched youtube before I started attempting to remove plugs
on my mother-in-law’s 5.4L F150. I broke 2 plugs before I tried the carb
cleaner method and loosening/tightening as you remove the plug. The Lisle
broken plug tip extractor kit is the way to go if you break one off.

abraham Krikorian says:

I wouldn’t attempt to remove those spark plugs without having the extractor
on hand. Preferably the MATCO Triton spark plug extractor.

serchmarc says:

thx for the tip bro

ajsullyvincennes says:

Didn’t they have the thread issue fixed in the heads by 2005?

maincity says:

@tubesteak0u812 Dude do you work for Ford? The 2 piece plugs are horse
shit!! Ford needs to do a recall with all those profits they’ve been
reporting! New heads and one piece plugs! Champions for now buddy sorry you
will not convince me otherwise. The proof is under my hood.

bobtat says:

Ford issued a TSB 08-7-6 back in April of 2008 for removal procedures.

TahoeBilly2007 says:

We did this exactly. But I think we cracked them an 1/8 turn the next
morning and soaked them again.

austin mullins says:

the fix to all your ford problems is should have bought a chevy HMMM makes
you wonder why the f series is the #1 selling brand seems like a hassle to
own one IMHO

THEMASTEROFYOU2000 says:

@bsuzewitz1 they quated me 450 bucks to change plugs at Ford house, I did
it th fist time myself in the sutozone parking lot with a 10doallr cheapo
socket set, took about 2 hours the first time. Use anti-seize on the new
plugs, only use the factory platium plugs and start them easily as not to
crossthread them, use same precautions for all aluminum headed
engines…replace all coil packs also at 100k and you wont have any
problems, preventive maintinence is worth it!!!

brandonbroach1 says:

Do u work on 1999 Lincoln Navigators? It’s too much of a pain for me to
access the plugs and I have leaking valve o-rings. If you can hit me up at
ilyketyorwy@yahoo.com, I’m local in the S.F. Bay. ty

Stuart Sugden says:

hey guys great piece of info ,but when you pull the plug out of the hole
does,nt all the crap that is usually round a spark plug wash into the
cylinder along with the carb cleaner

tubesteak0u812 says:

@maincity Ford engines don’t like champion or most other brand plugs, I’d
put the motorcraft right back in I have taken out way to many aftermarket
plugs in all Ford models, customers come in and say no way I just did a
tune up its not the plugs and sure enough you swap them out and the misfire
goes away stay away from the junk plugs and use the factory ones or you are
just going to have to swap em out anyway.

Kevin Barry says:

I had this problem with a 4.6 L 2002 Ford F 250, they only put 5 threads
for the plug socket, they are supposed to have fixed this by 2004 by using
7 threads. I asked the Ford dealer to take out the plugs and replace them
during the tune up I had prior to this happening, but he informed me it
didn’t need it till 100 K, It also took out the spark generator. Had it
fixed cheap, Ford wanted $5,000 to replace the head. NO more FORDs for ME !
Too bad, I loved my F-250

Restricted But Armed says:

Dorman 42025. This part was a life saver when i blew a plug

Muzzy337 says:

Total misinformation and bad advice. You first blow the spark plug well out
with compressed air, then you crack the spark plug loose 1/16th of a turn.
Spray carbon disolving cleaner into the well and let it sit for at least 1
hour. Then you blow the well out again with a rag to catch the spray. NOW
you have a loosened plug ready for removal with zero danger of dropping any
crap into the combustion chamber. Spraying cleaner in on a plug that’s not
loose won’t do shit. FUCK FORD FOR A SHIT DESIGN!

andrewg367 says:

So why use carb cleaner instead of a penetrating oil? Seems to me that a
carb cleaner would evaporate to fast to do any good!?!? Also Do you know if
they have the same problem on the 07 5.4?

FordsAreSick11 says:

my f250 engine light is on… ithink it is because its almost 10k miles oer
due for an oil change…

Steve Curran says:

I agree. Did the dreaded plug swap. Blew air first, cracked 1/16th turn,
sprayed carb and penetrating oil… let sit for +/- an hour…. blew the
remaining solvents out… Loose/tight back and forth.. paying attention to
resistance… Once removed I used a shop-vac with fuel line hose taped to
the end (to get into the combustion chamber… Ended up breaking 2. Put
Champion 7889 and stated getting misfire on Cyl#2. I am going back to
Motorcraft platinum .. hell I have the Lisle tool now…

marek0086 says:

@Iznuthin~ oh ye thats a good idea!…. so then when u remove the spark
plug all that dirty solvent goes straight into your cylinder!!!!…. are u
stupid?! To clean out the area u just blow it with compressed air WITH the
spark plug still screwed in. And then u just use a little anti-seize lube
on the new spark plug threads!! Fricken amature!

John Smickle says:

How did the rest come out for ya? I bought the spark plug removal kit for
my 05 mustang hopefully I won’t need it with this method, knock on wood!

Peter Castaldo says:

What you said makes absolutely no sense

maincity says:

Awesome vid! Just a quick note that champion make a one piece heavy duty
sparkplug for the F250 because of Fords poor head design on these gas
engines. Champion spark plug part# 7989 .
