Tom Silva teaches the apprentices how to install new replacement windows which will go into the existing window openings of the original part of the house. The double hung windows are primed on the inside and aluminum clad on the outside. They have a sponge balancing system on each side of the opening where the sashes get snapped into and locked into place. They put one in together. Now only thirty-three more windows to go.

you'd first want to know your hole is rectangular and the corners 90 degrees. Those double hungs could move very poorly if the rough opening is not even on both sides. Yikes what a system.
What brand Sash was that? Or what brands do you guys recommend??? Thanks
Call your local Marvin window dealer for this solution in aluminum clad or all wood….
If you want to know how to do it yourself, just look for Woodglut.
I think you can do it yourself, just watch and learn from Woodglut.
How would you measure to order these windows, if the old jambs are not plumb, which they usualy arnt?
old house, old american guy.
just an old guy not knowing what he is doing.
Where can I find that window system? Seems a lot easier then a full replacement.
3:04 well this is awkward…

Great idea let's put sponges against the wood in the rough opening of the walls so that if moisture gets in there it can hold the moisture directly against the wood for a long time and the sponge can turn into 100% mold!
Ward Cleaver needs to take the station wagon down to the local hardware store to buy some paint, grass seed, and other items, so he, Wally, and Beaver can do some much needed repairs.
Too bad they weren't taught to wear safety glasses while nailing.
I like this style of new replacement window. See too many older houses with replacement windows that have wide frames making your new windows look awkwardly smaller compared to originals. This style seems to minimize that effect.
The lesbian women is pretty with a nice booty. ✌
Wonder how much these replacement kits cost?
I love these series teaching young adults the trades!
At least Austin got see his handiwork on the completion of the house before his passing. R.I.P Austin.
Sound amazing to me, we do not have those kind of improvement kit in Canada, I guest with our winters it would be difficult to have efficient enough upgrade kit. now a days almost all our new windows are PVC based. Personally I bought 3 glass thick widows with argon low types!
