Ford, Lincoln & Mercury: T – Connector Coolant Leak Repair

Ford, Lincoln & Mercury: T – Connector Coolant Leak Repair

In Ford’s non ending pursuit to save on manufacturing costs, they use low budget, fragile, non durable plastic T connectors and compression fittings (in lieu of metal hose clamps) in their cooling systems; specifically the heater inlet hose in this video. While they may save 50 cents or a dollar in cost, you … the owner, would pay hundreds to a dealership to have a leaking T connector repaired. On a recent Ford Escape (with 4 plastic coolant T connectors) and a Mercury Mountaineer, I replaced the leaking plastic connectors and substituted Ford’s one-time-use compression clamps/fittings with new screw type hose clamps. If the dealership were to perform the repair, they would not even attempt to replace the defective T connector; rather, they would replace the connector with three new attached hoses thereby forcing you to buy new hoses that are unnecessary. The three hose replacement with a new T connector and compression clamps would run you close to $100 (at the dealer with a 70% markup) … just for the replacement part! The replacement T connector made by Dorman and three new hose clamps cost me $6 in change.

This video will show you the quick and easy way to replace these low budget, leak prone T connectors with their compression fittings.
