I have the 180 HD and when I plug it in and turn the switch on nothing happens. The fan doesn’t turn on, the gun does feed the wire. I’m running 8/2 wire on a 40 amp double pull breaker out to the receptacle and the machine is getting juice cuz my tester shows the power cord is hot when its plugged in. Whats going on?

yeah i got mine usedoff ebay for 280…still works great

quartermilecamel says:

but not all the time.

quartermilecamel says:

To get the welder working, I just twist the handle till it works. Twist it back and it can quit.

wroughtirondude says:

what’s wrong with your welder

quartermilecamel says:

Unfortunately, I have had this welder for 4 or so years. Its not new. I just need to know how to fix it.

wroughtirondude says:

Yes. Faulty for sure. This should not be happening. Take it back or get a replacement. No use fighting it. Welding’s a delicate process, the last thing you need is your equipment to not function properly. In some welders they have a trgger lock which works so you don’t have to hold the trigger down the whole time (ergonomically friendly-carpal tunnel reducing etc). But I don’t think this is the case in your situation. Please let me know how it goes. Mishandling during shipping/dropping can cause

quartermilecamel says:

Upon further though, I have to hold the red button trigger close to its pivot point in order for it to work. I have popped the red button out accidentially a few times so Im not sure if its just needs a trigger replacement or maybe a good cleaning

quartermilecamel says:

my welders trigger is intermittent. How do you fix that? promig 140 as well. I have to hold the welder main trigger body a certain way for it to work cable wise. If I move the cable out of its sweet spot, it quits. Bad Cable or wires to trigger open/broke?

Thanks man. Appreciate it!

wroughtirondude says:

Yes for sure.

Is this a good welder for someone just starting out? Looking to do some wrought iron style gates and small diy projects. Thanks
