2003 Lincoln Town Car Starter Replacement Steps – 2003+ panther chassis starter replace how-to

Process is similar for other panther chassis cars like the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, etc – most 2V 4.6l. Marauder with 4V V8 may be different. 2003 up, but always check service manual steps.

PARTS AND TOOLS:

As normal, note that some links will be going to my Amazon Affiliates link, so I’ll get a small bonus if you order through that link. I’ll link to things I have either used or I would order if I didn’t have the tools for this job. I don’t endorse or shill parts or tools for any companies, but I’ll tell you if I used something and liked it.

For the starter – Amazon does not show it in stock. BEWARE searching the part number on Amazon! You will get plenty of knock-offs and fakes that are claiming that part number in the listing. Always be sure you are getting a genuine Motorcraft part and not some cheap junk part.

RockAuto – I got mine here this time, but should be same as getting from a dealer.

Tools:

Mainly we used: 10mm, 13mm sockets, 8mm wrench for battery. 6″ wobble extension, and ratchet. Torque wrenches in 20lb ft range as wel as an inch lb torque wrench.

Battery powered ratchet:

You may have seen my using a battery powered ratchet – it’s the Harbor Freight Earthquake XT model:

Not needed for this job, but in case you were wondering! I’ve not put it to a ton of use left, as I got it on sale recently, but we’ll see how it holds up!
